Hello;
Has anyone ever changed over to a carburetor on an XB12R? Ive seen online that some guys are building custom rigid chops and putting the XB12R engines, transmissions, front and rear ends into the frames. They are using carburetors on the engines instead of the stock fuel injection system, Thanks.

I could see one reason being ease of tuning. Alot of us are good at EFI tuning but some people it's alot easier to read the plugs, change jets and adjust some screws. I would assume if you were going to do it that it would be a side draft setup, like your typical harley engine. Also on the choppers, no worries about hiding the ecm and wiring. Yes we all know that efi is better for most things but sometimes for some people a carb is hard to beat. You have a problem with the way it runs, you don't need a laptop to figure out if a sensor went bad or do TPS resets etc etc

I can tell you right now, it would be far cheaper and easier to buy a laptop, download ECMSPY and go that route if you're talking about carb'in an XB.
For a custom bike you can just get an intake and carb setup from a Sportster and bolt er' on.

plus on any carbureted XB you'd need a fuel return line, regulator to control fuel pump pressure to the carb, associated wiring and plumbing and brackets to make it work. and after all that, how do you over-ride the lack of a TPS switch and ATI switch that the computer now does not "see"? or are you planning on ditching entire wiring harness, ECM, all modules and sensors and re-wiring the entire bike for a carb and points-type ignition?

I used a sportster intake and a Mikuni HSR42 on my build.

The problem is to get the ignition right. U have to get rid of the stock ignition and get some kind of nosecone ignition (I used one from Daytona twintech) and then get a new rotorcup (U can buy an adjusted one at Bare Knuckle Choppers).

oakie: ur not running an XB chassis though right? i think ud have to build ur own intake to run a carb on an XB chassis.
And again y would u want to go carb. unless ur building a custom using an XB engine and dont want to try to cram all the electronics into a chopper or stipped down cafe'. In that case oakie[up] sportster or tuber buell intake(like a cyclone) and that mikuni (i looked @ it alot when i had my cyclone looks like a sweet carb) they also make a kit to fit tht carb to an X1. or the stock carb off a sportster can be jetted for a 1203.

Nope, I used the XB engine in a caferacer/custombuild. "riderboy1961" mentioned the words "building custom rigid chops" in his post so I just assumed that he was going to use the engine that way. :)
