Looks nice... Looks just like my ASB catch can. Are you attaching a air filter to the top as well?
Thanks! The stainless steel air filter is right on the back side of the catch can for clean and nice look, The catch can has baffle for vent hole to prevent moisture goes out, so no need to route air filter up.

Positive crankcase ventilation.. needs to be connected to a negative pressure area of engine. Could be but not limited to, throttle body, carbuerator, spacer under carb, upper intake plenum, lower intake plenum, airboxes. And if the machine did not come with a PCV system, it doesn't need one. They are very important to have functioning properly. And i see this a lot with these buells, making goofy breather systems to catch oil... from all my years of wrenching you shouldn't be filling up jugs with oil blow by.. I left my PCV hoses in the stock location on my buell, and when I clean my filter there is not one drop of oil on the plastic below my filter.

I have been reading debates on this for a while and the buell community is the most vocal on PCV issues. I just needed to add my 2 cents.. now fellow forum members rip me apart..lolol
 
Is will work just fine. But according Drummer website you have to drain that catch can each refuelling.

So why does my xb9r emit no oil through the PCV system. ? I am not saying people don't have oil going through the PCV, but it is because of some thing wearing out. Or the PCV valves are not working. I couldn't see harley making a engine in the 2000s that would need to drain off it's blow by. I could be wrong these are still primitive engine designs
 
Basically only reason for excess oil is worn out rings,or over filling the oil. I have seen airboxes with tons of oil pooling....
 
On engines in good shape only a vapor appears and gets sucked back into the intake, What I have done put longer tubes in place allowing the vapor to get sucked in with less on the bottom of the air cleaner base.
 
Just on a design point, a great effort, but here are some points to consider for a MK2 version ;-)
How much pressure is the "catch can" going to see? Everybody loves billet but it looks like it could be bomb proof when really a simpler design could be employed.
You could remove those two seals for the screws if you re routed the o-ring path to make the screw holes fall out side the o-ring path.
Remove the o-ring removal groove as that is a guaranteed seal failure point, after all how many times are you changing that o-ring anyway?
 
The o-ring removal groove is very small and allocated on the top side of the catch can, so it should be fine. There is also vent hole to atmosphere, so the pressure inside the catch can will be close the the outside pressure. And I already installed and removed the big o-ring checking fitments and the groove was invaluable feature. I do not want to destroy those big o-ring trying to remove it, this is not super cheap part, and I do not want to scratch such nice black anodized finish trying to remove the o-ring. And probably I will need to test different o-rings from different materials with different chemical properties and different hardness if this o-ring will not work properly for some reason. So I believe this feature is a must.

I was thinking about placing those screws outside the big o-ring perimeter, but in this case it will need more screws to clamp the cover evenly and will take more internal volume finally, so I decided to make two screws in the middle of the cover with o-ring seals.

because your motor is in "good shape" including the internal sealing components(cylinder walls/piston ring lands/piston skirts/piston rings)and breather system doing its job. see cole's remark.
 
Not necessary. People also do breather reroute to not mess with breather hoses each time you need to remove airbox baseplate.

This is true, I just put the mod recently and came to the same conclusion. Every week there is only a drop of water under the tap and I attributed it to the fact my top end rebuild only has a few miles on it. A nice way to get a feel for engine health and a good mod thanks.

Alright, if you want to make you own catch can first of all you need a CAD model. Here is the link to download zip archive with STEP files and drawings I've prepared for catch can parts.

Then you have to CNC those part and anodize if you want. I do not have CNC machine, so I ordered the parts from a China prototyping company. I used RP Prototype service http://rpgroupltd.com. I am impressed with the catch can parts quality they made.
