Just bought a 2009 CR and the Evaporation emissions canister under the seat had charcoal spilling out the end with 1 hole, not 2. The other 2 holes are connected. Can I just plug it, or do I need to connecting somewhere? I looked through the manual, but it doesn't show where it would go...

[up]. I believe (take that with salt) that California only bikes got that. 49 state bikes just vent to atmosphere. Ironically, I'd like to have a charcoal canister every time my CR spits raw gas out of the vent on hot days...

Yep cali only. I still have mine. Helps keep the fumes from getting out into the garage. I have mine re-routed though. Mine runs from the tank vent to the charcoal can in, then out the main through a loop and vents into the atmosphere. I have the 2nd out and the throttle body in capped off.

I did this because I was having problems starting the bike on hot days, the fumes were re-directed into the throttle bodies causing an over rich mixture.

Fun fact of the day.

I think it's just a vent, but you shouldn't have charcoal coming out! I'd get rid of it.

Maybe I'll do that then. The only thing I was worried about is, as mentioned there's no cap on the top of the can. Pellets were just spilling out into the tail. Can I just cap off the top?

Could you do a pic or a quick sketch of how you did it? Mine goes from tank breather to Can in (small holes on can) then throttle body to can, (small holes) then the big hole on top had nothing on it.

Big hole in top??? There should be no big hole on top?? There should be 1 in, and then on the opposite side of the cylinder 2 outs. Find the line routed to the throttle bodies and disconnect it from the throttle bodies, re-route this hose to the atmosphere and cap off the 2nd outout

The loop is just to help condense fumes. Make sure you cap off both the throttle bodies and canister very well when you reroute the hose.

But, I wouldn't mess with it at all unless you are having trouble starting your bike once it is warmed up. If you aren't, don't touch any of it.

You are the MAN! I will need a lot of space coming up here shortly... So Was trying to eliminate the huge canister. Might have to relocate, or find a smaller option.
