Today my daughter turned 3 years old. I have been thinking about this for a while. For some time she has loved for me to sit her on the seat of the XB12R and crank it up, while she sits there with it idling. So today I asked her if she wanted to go for a ride with daddy. I know, you're saying, no you didn't. Don't blow the child endangerment whistle. She sat in front of me, between me and the air box cover. She was wearing a full-coverage helmet and MC gloves. I did not go fast. I wasn't sure how she was going to act. I took her 1 block down our street, U-turned and came back. SHE LOVED IT! She squealed with delightful laughter a couple of times during the short ride. Everything was fine. The rest of the evening, she was saying, "I go on my first ride!" Her mom got pics and video. Her first ride - on her 3rd birthday - on a BUELL XB! Making memories.

That's awesome man! My daughter is only two but every time she sees my bike she goes "Daddy vroom vroom!" I can't wait to get her her first dirt bike.

Super cool ,Same here my son @ 2 I would take him out riding with me on my four wheeler he would fall asleep some times lol.Best way to have time with your kids!![up]They will never forget it either.

I didnt the samething when my son was 3. I used to take him around the block on my 9R. He is now 10 and wants a Buell of his own;) Their only young once![up]
Remember though pics or it didnt happen:D

Yep. My old man did it... Mom would always be pissed. My cousin has a bad ass pic of him sitting on his Dads 70s style chopper gastank cruising down the road. Wish I had one( of me and my dad) it's one of my favorite pictures of all time. Great memories though.

When my kids were 6 they started riding with me...strapped to the sissy bar! They never refused a ride!
Great story ,v-tech.[up]

Great story congrats! I used to ride on the back on my Dad's sporty when I was little...then he found out that i was sleeping on the back, and that was the end of that! Then he got a full dresser and let me sleep all i wanted on the back of that thing while we took camping trips together. Those are memories with my Dad that I will never forget!

just remember **** happens and you would never forgive yourself if something did your spouce will have your nuts.A small dirt bike with ATGATT is a different story...

TRUE TRUE SO TRUE tyler - very sensitive to that. Would never ever forgive myself. Thanks for the concern.

Special thanks to all you others who liked the story. 'preciate it

Will try to see if I can get a still image to two off of the video - its an older type video camera that uses the mini-dvd discs.

Good to know about the pw. That IS the bike we've decided on.

Believe us when we say we started talking about it a long time ago that when she starts riding, as a passenger or a "driver", that she will be wearing all her proper safety gear (boots, body armour, full coverage helment, gloves, etc.). We totally believe in it. If she was on the bike for longer than the one minute it took to go down one block of our street and back, she would have been wearing all the gear then. Before we took her out to get her on the bike, I was talking to her, "you ALWAYS wear your helmet when you ride on a motorcycle". We are still some time away from her being old enough for longer rides, or learning to ride herself. Why, she is only just getting more experience on her bicycle with training wheels as it is. I also taught my older son (who is a young adult now married with two kids of his own) to ride - for his 14th birthday I got him a Suzuki 125. Taught him SAFETY all the way too. All his time coming up I would point out people riding without helmets...he got to wear he would point them out to me, "dad, they're not wearing a helmet!" A helmet has saved me A LOT of pain. I cannot count how many times I have been hit in the head or face area by debris, large insect, etc. hard enough of a wack to make me go, "I am SO glad I had my helmet on" - too many times to count.
