Got my Uly from Harley after being repaired from collision and had to bring it back.
There is a switch under the clutch perch that had a cracked mounting screw, or cracked perch?
Anyways the starter is not cranking with the clutch in and bike in gear. There is also a broken wire for this switch in the main harness at the triple tree. So the starter only works when the bike is in neutral. I usually only start the bike in gear at the gas pump, so that is when I noticed it.

There is one other effect of this switch not working correctly. The later models (mine at least, 2009 Uly) are programmed to increase idle speed a few hundred rpms when the clutch is engaged and the bike is in gear. I only learned this a few days ago after installing new levers (ASV . . . poor fitment for the money) and noticing unsteady idle at a light. When I pulled the lever all the way into the bar the rpms settled to idle. Had to grind down the lever where it engages the switch so that it depresses it at a differed lever point.

If it were me, given how infrequently (read: never) I start the bike in gear and having little need for assistance with the clutch, I might skip fixing it. The higher idle (about 1400 vs 1000) would be annoying though.

clutch lever safety switch part # is 68645-96Y still readily available and inexpensive. i would replace it and fix the broken wire you mentioned. if the portion of the lever perch that the safety switch attaches to is also broken replace same. all these parts cheap and available.

Thanks it was replaced under the insurance claim from collision. It is working well now, thanks for your info everyone
