There was a previous forum that was based on the idea of improving the look of the headers. I have an 09 XB12R and while warming the engine up recently i accidently brushed up against them with my workout shorts. The shorts then melted onto the pipes and now I have enormous stains on the headers. (Wow I can't believe I'm admitting that I actually did that) anyway...I saw on that particular forum that some of you were suggestion that I could either wrap the headers or have the ceramic coated. How would I go about doing either of these?? Any websites you all would recommend?? or possible costs...

Thank you

Scotchbrite pad, steel wool and WD-40 will remove and polish the pipes unless u are just wanting to coat them for heat reasons. But that will remove the stain for now.

The scotchbrite and WD-40 work great to shine them babies up. I wrap mine because it helps keep the heat off my leg and because I like the way it looks. When I wrapped mine, I polished them first with the WD-40 and pad, then I painted them with high heat primer, and then wrapped them. I love it and have no complaints. I might ceramic coat them someday, but that's a little pricey and I don't feel like pulling my headers off because I'm lazy.

Ceramic coating still adds no barrier in between the hot pipe and you leg. I had the same issue and went with the DEI Titanium header wrap. It was easy to work with and the titanium wrap does not require getting it wet.

You guys rock!! I'm going to try and use the steel wool to remove, scotch brites and wd40 with the polish...I'll let you know the results!!

Does it make any difference on how long the stain has been there?? I did it this morning but I want to ride the bike today...Is it going to make it worse to keep heating it up and cooling it down??

i rode mine a couple of days after doing the same thing.most of the stuff on mine just flaked off and then i just polished the stain off.

What's amazing is that I just got back from a nice long (freezing) ride and it seems as though some of it has already flaked off as well...I'll try the polish when she cools!! Thank you very much for the advice all!

Just a heads up though on the header wrap. If you wrap, yes it keeps the heat off your leg, because its keeping the heat in the pipe. With more heat in the pipe, the temp can get really hot, too hot for the head @ the retaining ring, which can heat stress and possibly crack those stock heads. I've never been a fan of it since I saw this happen. Also if you were to take off the wrap after a while you'll have some severe discoloring (purple-ish) due to excessive heat buildup.

Jet hot is without a doubt, imo, the better way to go

You can also use easy off oven cleaner to clean melted plastic or rubber off your pipe. I used to use it on my HDs when my raingear would rub against the pipe. Supper easy warm up the bike spray the area and wait for it to cool and it will wipe right off.
