Cold start, low idle, then dies

I recently, in the last week, started to experience a new behavior during cold starts. After starting it to let it warm up, the idle will start out normal, and then slowly drop until the bike dies. If I give it just enough throttle to maintain normal cold start warm up idle levels for 30 seconds or so and then let go of the throttle it will hold that idle until fully warmed up. It has an EBR ECM, EBR charging rotor, Rick's stator, denoided, new Shorai battery. Any ideas I should look for to troubleshoot?

3 things needed to make an engine run: air, fuel, spark.

Check air filter, fuel pump pressure, try the spark plug clean procedure.

Ensure battery charge, load test, grounds are tight.

Once warmed up it runs without issue, so I know it is satisfying the three criteria. Battery is new and charge is fine, I will verify the other suggestions (grounds, filter, pressure). But as I said, it's not an ongoing issue when running, idles perfectly fine once warmed up.

What, you're not telepathic? :D It's a 2009 R.

One of the guys over on BadWeb suggested a TPS reset. Seems to have fixed the problem. . . . at least on the first cold start after the TPS reset. We'll see tomorrow when I attempt another cold start.

I get the dunce cap for not trying that first before posting. :) You saw my screen name right? :)

Of all the times I've heard/read "do a tps reset" from some X Xb rider. I can tell you that I've never heard about it actually fixing anything on the 1125r.

While I do hope your problem is fixed. I don't think that the tps sensor is your issue.

Go into diagnostics and see what the tps sensor is reading should be about 2% at idle. It's to bad you didn't do this prior to the attempted fix.

Did this start right after you put the EBR ECM on the bike? ... if so, sounds like the cold start enrichment values might be off ... along with the idle values themselves ...

Please take note... I ride an XB, so my suggestion there above comes only from experience with working on DDFI 2 systems ... I'm only throwing this suggestion out there because even with the improvements on the DDFI 3 systems the +08 XB's and 1125's use, some of the same situations are encountered between platforms due to tuning issues ... In open loop running during warmup (before the O2 sensors have warmed enough to provide reliable readings) the cold start enrichment is throwing a lot of fuel at the motor acting as what's basically an electronic choke ... so if the idle cells themselves along with the CSE is terribly rich or lean, this will cause some poor running issues when a cold motor is first started ... Since we're dealing with DDFI 3 here, which is out of ECMspy's reach, you'll have to employ tunerpro to get yourself on the road to tuning these areas of your map (if you really want to get into that yourself that is) ...

Just my 0.02 cents there man ...
