[confused] I personally use royal purple in my BUELL what have noticed lots of valvetrain noise at constant speeds like a lifter tapping hard to explain. Just curious of anyone else's experience. Everything I found on forum never really had a write up sooooooo. Any.input would be trophy.
Thanks
Kevin

Not sure on bikes but had buddies use RP on trucks to find out how bad it gums up over only a couple oil changes. I have also read that in an Off-Road magazine and seen it on Power Block a couple years back. I won't touch the stuff but some guys swear by it.

I put it in my bike this time and noticed the same thing? WTF? I guess I'll go over to amsoil. is that what everyone else is running?

I ran rp last summer and was not to impressed I'm going to use moble1 I've herd some good reviews about it

every since Ive gone to syn oil my valve train has been noisier than crap...........Im thinking of going back to dyno oil on my next change to see if my 12r quiets down any.

I have the same issue right now, I am going to Lucas full synthetic 50w v-twin oil. I will let you all know how that turns out.

I have always run Amsoil in all of my bikes without any problems. I have lost two motors on Royal Purple in my MR2. That was drag racing but when I went back to Valvoline in the car I never lost another motor. That is just my experience with Royal Purple, I don't really care for it. God Bless!

I used RP for 500 miles, and quickly went back to Amsoil. With RP in the primary, it made it feel like I was shifting with gravel as a lubricant, and engine noise was terrible.

Amsoil is good stuff.

Same, Amsoil is my personal favorite. Never had an issue. Even changing it after 10k miles it still looks pretty clean.

Thank you all. Jason please do inform us. I'm not sure I enjoy all this valvetrain noise personally. Also I heard once you go synthetic u shouldn't go back to conventional? Blend? What's big deal between regular motor oil ad MC specific?

I've used RP in 3 different bikes over a span of 8 years without issue.

I think a lot of people start listening to the noises and get paranoid.

Mowgoli I'd say u hit the nail on the head but the true question lies is if u heard the noises as well?

I thought I was just listening to the noises until my fiancé and a buddy both noticed the increase in noise! Now I get asked if there is something wrong with my bike, which I never heard a noise from before. I am in no way saying royal purple oil is no good, I just won't be putting it back in my buell.

Ehh, I am not saying my bike doesn't make some noise, however, have you ever heard a big twin that doesn't have a little chatter to it? Yes, I have heard some that are quieter than others but every engine fits together just slightly different ;)

I hear ya, I am not saying that RP is the best, or that the other popular choices are not as good. I am just saying I have used it for almost a decade with no issues that have been linked to my choice of oil.

I have also had good experiences with Mobil products.

Just stay the hell away from that HD crap.

;P

Ya I hear you! I wouldn't pay for the hd stuff anyways!! I still use rp in my truck and my wife's car, like I said I just won't be using it for the buell any more. I don't like the extra noise, I am sure it is not hurting anything though.

I stopped running RP last year after hearing odd sounds too. Running Mobil 1 Vtwin now and love it.

Well this is a sign of relief. WHEWWWWW so my.BUELL will continue to live. Thanks to u all now I have a decision to make.

Real quick I've heard people say its bad to switch oil back and forth between brands. True? I'm a mechanic but even so I start to question what u already know.
