this is something we all do weather we know it or not.but it seems like many of us have not perfected it or use it to our full advantage.i have been riding all my life and still spend one day a month on accident avoidence techniques.this subject came up at work today with a guy i ride with his idea of avoiding a crash is brakes, lean and pray.

Practicing swerving is definitely something that I try doing about once a month in a nice empty parking lot, along with low speed maneuvers that I don't normally do during daily riding. Personally it keeps my skills fresher as I'm a relatively new rider.

i got to put my 'swerve' technique into practice the other day when some prat cager pulled out on me on my way to work, i whipped cross 2 lanes (into on-coming) yet the guy continued to pull out like he never even noticed me, missed his bonnet by about 2ft then back into my lane.

Most riders with Chicken Strip tyers, dont know how to countersteer,When they come to a corner they try to steer around it.say a left hander, they will turn the bars left, but this will pick the bike up and make it want to go right. So you are leening left, but going right, some times you can see people swerving slightly left and right going through a corner.Last year I taught my 46 year old wife how to ride.(one day see woke up and said I want to ride)I got her a 250 Verago,Once she got past the stage of me runing next to her in first gear,up and down our long driveway,I took her to a parking lot and started to teach her countersteering.Cornering and swerving techniques. One year later she is a good rider,She now rides an XVS650 and is as smooth as silk through the corners.Im very proud of her.(and it keeps her of the back of mine)[up][up]

I have chicken strips because...I'm a chicken![smirk]
I'm old, if I fall over, my bones will just turn to dust. It doesn't do any good to put dust in a cast. You would just have to scoop me up with a Bobcat and dump me in a wheelchair, and you can't countersteer a wheelchair. :(

Honestly, one of my favorite motorcycle stories is of a time, many years ago, that I was changing lanes to the right, to get around a car, countersteering left and up-shifting at the same time. Suddenly, my bars snapped to full lock left, and then regained direction as my front wheel briefly left the pavement. As a young man, I thought that was really cool, but now I know how dangerous that really was, in heavy traffic.

lol,you guys are funny,Thats why i like this forum.You can learn **** and have a laugh.:D
