Hello everyone. I took it upon myself to do the mod on my bike about 3 weeks ago. once completed it ran beautiful for about a week. Then one day as I was riding home the bike started to jerk as I was giving it gas. felt like the engine was going to cut off. I gave it some gas and put fuel injector cleaner in it and it ran fine. Now today it started jerking on me again and it barely moved in every gear. it sounded bad and felt like the engine wanted to quit. Never had this problem until I did that mod. could a pinched hose cause this type of problem? Anyone else experience something like this before? I am begging for help because I just spent $1,300 at the HD dealer for 10k service and other things and I can't afford to take it back :(

you could have pulled the wires out of the tps sensor. or you forgot to plug in the Iat at the bottom of the airbox. or you pulled or messed up one of the fuel injector wires. so check all those. if you have ecm spy plug it in and see if any trouble code come up. or go to harley and have them use their scanner and tell you what code pop up if you dont have ecm spy

Something sounds wrong. Yes check for pinched hoses. You put in 91 right? I hope its not a fuel pump issue.

I only use 93 octane fuel in the bike, I had everything plugged up but I do not know where the fuel injector wires or the tps sensor wire is located. I am positive the Iat thing was plugged up because I had a hard time getting that off when I took the bike apart again lol. *sighs* Fuel pump issue sounds expensive. I put 12,000 miles on it and bought it new in 07. None of the engine lights came on so I may just have to take to the dealer so they can search for a code [sad] hope I didnt ruin my engine riding it back home.

I don't think you hurt anything as long as oil is in it. good luck. these guys can tell you how to troubleshoot the fuel pump. good luck

Mine was doing that in first gear at take off until I got a new tank of gas... now it runs like a champ

Doubt it's the Breather-reroute itself, especially if it ran "beautifully" for a week afterwards. If you're using 93, should be no need for fuel additives - may actually cause a negative effect. Check plugs and run out that tank of gas, get it all ran out and try another tank. Keep us posted.

did you get the intake air temp sensor dirty ,oily , or did you touch it or drop it or something, you may have shift it (knocked it out of calibration) or broke the IAT sensors' red wire or loose connection probaly if ran good for a while after you got it all back together, and then when bad, double check all your connections to make sure nothing came loose after you rode it for a while.double check the ruber boot around the IAT sensor to see if it seated properly and not ripped or cut check the intake velocity stack rubber boot also, along with the hose you put in the two holes from the old hoses from the pcv valves.

did you do the breather mod BEFORE or AFTER you had the service done at HD dealer???

drain your tank or run all the gas out and refill it with gas from another gas station could be alot of water in the gas(especially if your running E10 gas with ethanol in it as ethanol attracts and holds water badly even worse if it gas that has been sitting in the tank for months it can gum things up easily)> or clogged injectors .. winter blend gas kinda sucks too but souldnt cause problems.

native...a little off topic, but what would be the fix for a broken or dinged up sensor?

i have done the re-route, and other than being more difficult to start up, the thing runs a lot better.

i did notice my sensor was filthy when i did the re-route, so i'm just curious of that part can be replaced or not and if so, how it's done and what's involved after that (tps reset, etc)

you would just need to replace the whole sensor (just unplug it from the bottomand pull it out of the airbox bottom)
not worth the time to try to fix itand i doubt if hd dealer or anyone would know how to recalibrate once it is fixed, plus if they did what would they charge you...just probably cheaper to replace it. you can get one from .try buellparts.net , buellsterparts.com , hd/buell dealer, ironmachine.com or the buell parts guy i think can order you one.

for diagnose it see service manual..

No I have not found the problem yet. I did the mod directly after the 10k mile service. The first time it happened I thought it was because I was low on fuel. the second time when it was really bad was right when I fueled up completey. I took the bike apart. everything seems to be clean but what I have noticed is that this problem only happens when I ride the bike for a while and it starts to get hot. The dealer gave me platinum spark plugs during the service but maybe the heat has something to do this problem?? I am going to take it back to the dealer hopefully tomorrow and tell the, that it hasnt been running fine since they worked on it. [confused] I would check the plugs myself dont know how where they are or what to look for when I find them. Thank you every one for your input. I really appreciate it.

Is the fan still running? I had a similar problem it was the heat sensor on the rear cylinder. The engine light only used to flash on and off, took me a while to see it

My fan was still running as I stuggled to make it home, the hotter it got the worse it ran. I could barely take off in any gear and when I went faster it seemed to smooth out for a few secs then got worse again. lol I feel so bad for my bike [sad]. I do not recall touching the end of my IAT or getting it dirty but it could very well be the problem from the helpful advice I have been getting. when I get home today I will inspect it before I take it in.

OK so I get my bike back from the Dealer last tuesday, rode it home, About 30 miles... everything seemed cool. They said that I had electrical issues that was causing the problem, they werent specific about what was fixed, cost me 223 bucks... yesterday while riding everything seemed fixed then after about 20 minutes of riding (bike is hot) it starts acting up again... If I take it back to them, they should be entiteled to fix it without me paying again correct? I just dont get it [confused]

I would ask EXACTLY WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM & WHAT EXACTLY WAS FIXED ? if they cant tell you then they are probably ripping you off, $223 for a repair is alot and i would demand for a print out showing exactly what was done, which should have already been on your receipt/workorder. talk directly with the service tech and manager not the guy at the counter. it may be eletrical problems, but it REALLY IS sounding like you ARE having overheating problems to, if so take a look at :

Insufficient oil supply or oil not circulating,
Clogged or damaged fins on the oil cooler,
Coooling fan not operating properly,
Leaking valves,
Heavy carbon deposits,
IGNITION Timing retarded.

first of all check your oil , make sure you have the right amount in it, also just in case check your primary for proper amount of oil in it , if its low it can be hard on your clutch & (if they didnt fill your engine oil to proper level they may have did same to the primary also). if thats ok you may have clogged or bad oil filter or the bad check ball and spring in the oil filer mount, but with those it should of turned on the check engine light if its not burned out, next or last have them check the igniton timing since they replaced your plugs they may have tried to change the timing also !(since check timing is part of the 10k service and replace plugs, they may have accidently changed the timing to retarded ?) ? but it kinda seems to say that this problem did not occur until after thier 10k service that they may have caused the problem or something and they should fix it is what i would say to them , and that you had no problems prior to the 10k service.

is your check engine light on when this happened, or any other time.

Thank you very much for you advice [up] I appreciate it. My Check Engine light has never come on at anytime. I didnt quite mean that the bike was over heating. what I was trying to say was that once the bike starts running for a while and your engine is hot from working, the problems start. The fan does come on when it normally does. I just dont know why I can get about 10 minutes worth of riding in before this problem happens again. I will do exactly what you said and take it back to them and ask specifically what they did. I am just getting very frustrated because I have not been able to ride my bike when I wanted to for the past month [sad] once again thank you and be safe everyone

yes thats exactly what I meant, lol I couldnt find the correct termanology to use as I am not quite engine savy. I took it back to the dealer, they said, they fixed one problem but there could have been 2 problems and not one. sounds like a bunch of BULL SH** to me because why couldnt they just found both problems at once, they are trying to get me to pay again. I told them to not do any work on the bike until they tell me whats wrong... they said they can only test ride the bike for 10 miles which isnt enough to get the bike warm enough for the problems to start... I am too through with this HD Dealer [mad]
