I am by no means a mechanical or motorcycle expert which is why it is best to clarify before I do anything wrong. I bought my bike from my friend with a crankcase breather mod on it, located on the lower left side near the footpeg. I was told to open the little valve after returning from rides and leave it open for about an hour or so and then close it. Is this correct? and should the valve be closed when I'm riding?

I just want to be sure so I'm getting the full benefit from the mod and not harming anything. Thanks

Is there a breather on there? I leave mine closed... But I have a small filter so it technically still breathes...

Look at my picture in the crankcase breather mod DIY writeup. I'm towards the last page. See if your setup is like mine...

Ah, you don't have a "catch can" like I do. I instantly assumed you did. I'd still think it wouldn't matter. I'd just make sure to empty it every so often. I get about a 1/4" of fluid in the bottom of my catch can after 100 miles or so... Nothing major.

Valve should be closed unless you want to blow that fluid all over what's behind that drain line on your bike (depends on location). Mine would drain all over the primary cover if that were the case... I don't think you can do any harm with this mod unless you block it from venting (ie build excess crankcase pressure).

here's mine but no catch-can. i was always under the impression that a catch-can would gather the vapor/mist from an XB that is eithe run extremely hard or has ring sealing issues. but then again.....
