Hey everyone--

Last weekend I was rear-ended while stopped at a red light by a sleeping cager. I was thrown from the bike & then run over by the car. I had on my helmet, gloves, & heavy denim.

Good news: I'm alive & my injuries will eventually heal.
Bad news: My 2009 XB9SX was totaled--back end crunched to 2/3 original length.

I'm on crutches & going to see the bike @ the towing facility before they ship it to a salvage yard (probably tomorrow, Monday 9/10). The dude @ the towing garage said he didn't mind if I came by & took from it what I wanted before they shipped it.

My question to you guys is:
What parts would be worth taking? The bike was pretty much stock. There are a few things (headlight bracket, scoops, mirrors if intact, etc.) that make obvious/easy sense. But I'm not thinking too clearly right now on these pain meds & I don't want to miss any obvious parts.

I'll miss it--to this point it had been my favorite bike.

Thanks to all & safe riding,

:D

glad you're alive and kicking:D sucks 'bout the bike. The cables, windscreen, speedo, signals, front wheel, airbox cover, fender,etc...if able to salvage.

Glad your alive brother. I hope you have a speedy recovery. How about the foot pegs. Id buy those off of you

Get well soon ..I would be interested in the seat if it is a select or streetfighter? Also if you had the tail chopped and it is OK I would be interested in that too.

Thank goodness you escaped with your life!
Get Well Soon

See if you can buy whole thing for scrap, may get it cheap.
I have had friends do that with cars then part them out before taking to scrap yard themselves.

If you can but aren't interested, shoot me a line.

Again, get well soon,
Anthony

Forks/lowertriple/rear shock/etc ...... But more important glad your ok and sorry too hear what happened and about your bike.

biggest money will come from the front rim, airbox, and speedo. Maybe even the headlights, those come off nice and easy.

get well soon, I hope you can ride again soon!

I hope you can ride again sometime soon! I would pull any good plastic, ecm, and controls. Anything that could be wrecked if you dumped it and is still good you can sell on eBay to someone else who has laid theirs down.

jeez man glad your ok i was just in an accident this monday as well on my xb9sx i hope you are feeling better man and i'd die for some headlight brackets i shattered mine :(

It's good to be alive! Just stick the whole bike in your car and tell the dude that's the parts you wanted to take off... All of them count right? Lol

Thanks for the get well messages, everyone. Times heals but it's going to take a lot of it! :(

Everything in the back of the bike is wrecked, so I'm focusing on the front 1/2.

What's the easiest way to get at the ECM?

cant you buy back the whole bike for cheap from the insurance co?
do that and part it out if possible.

Glad you're ok man. I hope you're not down too long.

I'm actually looking for an inexpensive spare ECM to purchase. Dead, smashed, or otherwise doesn't matter.

Take care...

Hey everyone. Thanks so much for the well-wishes -- means a lot.

UPDATE:

I went to get the remains of my bike & it had already been picked up by the salvage yard, so I was able to strip nothing. NADA. Sucks.

I may head to the salvage yard & try to buy the wreck. I did talk to the insurance company (Progressive) about buying it "back" from them. They wanted near $2000. I thought that a bit steep for severely wrecked bike so I'll try to track it to the scrap yard. Anyone in the greater Detroit area who wants a project? I'd love to put that bike back together & would need a project-leader, as I am mechanical but inexperienced.

As for my body, I'm now mobile & in a soft-cast. Plenty of deep road-rash remains, but no infection so far. Internal contusions (spleen, liver, etc.) are apparently healing, too. So all is improving, but my baby's still gone.

I would love to zombify her:

Peace, all.
