the whole thing about not getting to use the liter bike to its potential is like the guy at the gym that is scrawny and says he's not there to get big. i tell ya...

Mine was doing some things similar last week. I replaced the Ignition relay and it seems to have fixed it. I could tap it and it would start. When it didn't I would get no headlight or click. I also cleaned all ground etc, it now runs much smoother and starts stronger. I'm going to replace the other three next week just to eliminate that.

Good Luck!

[confused]Please elaborate. I'm not seeing your analogy.

I think it's more like the guy who realizes there's no need to bring a gun to a fist fight.

ive lifted weights for years. the goal was to be jacked and pack on muscle and it always seemed like when the hommies were getting bigger than me I would always use the cop out line of " well it's not about getting huge", or "u can't utilize all that weight". Justification as to my current state and that it's ok to be the little guy. But really the guys are in the gym to get jacked. Basically liter bikes rule. And any bike goes as fast you open the throttle. Buells are cool. Clearly I am obsessed. But the justification that one cannot use a liter bike to it's potential is a common theme on the xb forum and I am wondering if it's not just a case of little guy blues. Yes, indeed it would make more sense to ride the 49cc scooter to the market instead of the zx10r. Yes it would make sense to take the Uly on a road trip. And yea it would make sense to take the xb9r to the track. But just like with anything if you are willing to put in the work you can learn how to ride a liter bike around correctly. Oh, and if we are fighting I am bringing whatever it takes to come out alive. Good night guys. Sorry for the thread jack.

Sorry for your "issues". I BRAVELY flew to the east coast and rode my XB12XT back to Minnesota from Mass. GREAT time. LIKE the bike a LOT; Special Ops muff is too loud for my taste though. I'm sure I'd prefer a nice mellow muffled Supertrapp or something of that sort. I too just joined the Milwaukee ranks. Having owned 55 bikes, I bought a 1200 Sportster (a few months ago) to do a Street-tracker, and now the XT. Good luck and keep plugging away. Ed Olson...Mn.

Perhaps, for some folks.

For me, just trying to keep my license on my CBR1000 & 919 had me crying the blues. If I truly was happier on those bikes, I'd still be on them. :D

I agree with the license thing. I wonder if I should get a slower bike sometimes because I do like to go fast. And I need my license for work.

Back to thread topic...I have now peeled the wrapping tape from the ECM back to the main harness and checked/manipulated every wire, also taking all of them out of the two plugs and checking each for snug fit on the corresponding pin in the ECM. Everything checked out just fine. So I went ahead and bought a used ECM to see if the problem lies within. If that doesn't work I will pull the entire wiring harness this winter and find that damn short!
