Day 1 of learning to ride Buell XB9R. . . spilled it

Dirt bike!! Best way to learn how to ride. There's only so much a book, video, or class will teach you. Eventually you just have to ride.

Dirt doesn't hurt as bad as concrete or other vehicles.

Don't give up. Everyone has to learn 'how to' at some point.

I also say learn on a dirt bike. That way you have all the fundamentals before you get out there with traffic.

thanks for everyone's advice!
the throttle issue has been resolved! I don't know how, but after tinkering with it, it's fixed!

and I can't use a dirtbike. . . I used most of my money on the XB9R, and I'm moving back to school on Tuesday

my plan of attack now is to take to the streets early in the morning when there is minimum traffic and just basically going around in 2nd gear until I feel comfortable actually being on a bike, to this day I've only logged in not even 2 hours, so hopefully with more time, the more comfortable I'll get

while at school I also plan on taking the rider's course. I need to learn/ride more and ease my nerves, because not going to lie, spilling it the other day has made me nervous [down]

thanks again everyone! it's people like you that makes me keep trying to learn!!

alright Ive been there too...[smirk] Second day i had my ULY (now this isnt my first bike but my first ever new bike) Its february 15th in southeast Nebraska. Yeah, i bought myself a valentines day present (wife approved) so ne ways its about 36 degrees @ 11:00 i back er outta the garage which has kinda a grass/gravel patch in front of it so i figure ill park it on the patio by the back door of the house to warm up to prevent the kickstand from sinkin in. I slowly idle using the clutch in lil bits to cross my yard & swoop the rear quickly outruns the back. It seems that only the top 2 inches of the ground had thawed to mud and made the frosty ground even slicker. So here i am layin in the yard with mud on me and the bike lookin around to c if ne of the neighbors were outside. Didnt break nething but totally trash my cloths and made a mess of my new shiny bike. My wife found the story much more ammusing than i did.

first bike i ever owned is my xb12r. just take it easy. right now you are nervous and/or scared. a bike won't do anything you don't make it. find a patch of concrete to just slowly ride around on. practice everything slowly and when you feel more confident then move it to the streets. start that when there is less traffic out. as your confidence grows you will find it is much easier then you ever thought.

That sucks! Before I got the Firebolt my riding experience was all with standard Japanese bikes. I got the bolt home safely after a 60 mile freeway ride. The next day I took it out in the neighborhood. At like 10 miles an hour I slipped in water but managed to muscle it upright before it went down and stopped about 3 inches shy of hitting the curb. I was very lucky. Of course there was the time I hit the house in my car and jacked up the front bumper.... MSF course and Twist of the Wrist (videos on Amazon) - both great investments. Safe riding!

I always think about how the worst part of dumping your bike is being embarrassed because people saw you.

Similar to when you're at a light and you rev to go but you're not in gear. I hate that!

holy crap - all that damage sounds more like you tossed it down the side of the grand canyon as opposed to dumping it at 30mph HAHA !!!!

i'm teasin ya, but you have to be careful, buddy....

Lol ya i was thinking the same thing, i know I laid my xb9r down at around 30 when a bicyclist cut me off and I only managed to hurt 1 side of the bike.............

And DIRT BIKES FOR THE WIN.............Has that already been said?

Ugh. Feel for you bro. Keep your head up tho and get back on. We've all been there in some shape or form.

Also, on the bright side. You've already dumped your bike at a fairly good speed (hey, 30mph isn't exactly standing still) so at least you want be completely afraid to lose it again, because you most likely will!

Respect that machine, as it has no respect for you.
