Ok So I've had my XB12scg about 24 hours.
It is stutttering so bad at all RPM's it's almost unridable.
I did the breather re-route last night. Rode it to work today. Fine. Started it for a couple friends to hear and shut it down. The starter had been hesitating. Started it up to leave. Idled fine.
As soon as I started moving it was missing / sutttering BAD. I barely made it home. If I kept it at about 4200 RPM it was ridable but any throttle movments caused violent stutters. Got home.

Checked battery 12.5 volts.
Bought new battery 12.9 volts.
Put in irridum plugs.

Still stutters. Not as bad but still unrideable.

Any ideas?
thanks

1) never start the bike if you're not going to ride it
2) don't renew things that are not broken

why did you do the breather reroute when you're still running in?

reset tps and do a decent ride-in

Did the breather to smooth out low rpm.
Battery needed to be replaced.
Plugs, as recomended to help with low rpm.

I did plan to ride away after the starting for friends. But had to run back in the office.
This to me is ridiculous that you cant start a bike and let it run a couple min and shut it down without fouling the plugs. That's not the case here but cm'on don't we have the technology not to foul plugs on a fulie motor? I've never heard that about any other bike or experienced it in any of the 20 er so bikes I've owned.

Since it was acting the same as when my battery was bad, I followed the electrical route and found the rear plug wire was slightly unseated from the coil. Must have happend when I changed plugs. So odley enough I had the same symptoms / problem with two different sources in the same day.

She's running sweet now. :D

glad she is running well. yeah i agree its a little ridiculous that it cant be started and stopped. Its not great for the bike, but I've done it and never had a problem. Just dont make a habit of it. Enjoy the bike.

Yup, she doesn't like to be started and not ridden. That's just the way things go.... in Albuquerque

BTW, I.... HATE... SAUERKRAUT!!!!!

Ok, that was random. lol. I would assume, looking at the time of the post, you either had the drunken munchies and thought sourkraut on a Bratwurst would be a good idea or you had it earlier and now paying for it. =)

Like NoMore4s said, it's not going to foul the plugs every time but if you make a habit of it you're going to run into issues. I've done it a couple times (you have to make the jap bikes envious once in a while) and never had issues. I just made sure to run it for long enough to get some heat built up.

But when I first bought the bike they started it up to drive it off the showroom, ran it for about 30 seconds and shut it off. Fouled the plugs, I had to wait for an hour while the bean-heads changed the plugs.

glad you got your bike running. It does suck that you cant show off the coolness that your motor makes, but keep in mind that you own the spawn of Harley Davidson. Back in the70s,80s and into the 90s these bikes were unreliable at best. The newer technology has made them much better, so they are headed in the right direction.

I like to let people hear my bike when I take off. You don't need to hear them say "man that is cool!!", you know they will :D

I had to start it for my buddy, but it has the stock exhaust so it really only sounds great at speed.

I've also had harleys from the 70'd and yeah I know the limits of the motor. You have to marvel that they get the kind of HP they do.

Rode a good bit today. AWSOME bike. I'm leaning farther and riding better than I have in a long time and I've had all kinds of EURO stuff, Ducati, Moto Guzzi, BMW, Super Motard, etc..
Lovin it!

glad it was a simple fix..and your right no way in hell plug should be fouling like that .. i know of no other bike that does that ...has to be a glitch in the way the efi is set up

Best song EVER

Sorry for the tread jack, I was just explaining the madness.

I read that and immediately thought of Weird Al :) so guess not everyone got that one [cool]

ps-glad the bike is working properly again.
I would agree with part of the quote that..why can't I do this/that with a buell when no other bike would show problems from doing the same thing.

Turns out I have bigger problems.
Bike was running fine yesterday for 30 miles or so. I stoped for about 20min. When I left there was a hesitation at low rpm and a few blocks later it was missing so bad I had to pull over. It got worse very quickly. I pulled the top apart on the side of the road and the plugs were fully seated. Nothing to do but wait for the tow truck.

When I got home I pulled the plugs and they were both fouled. Put a new set in and started, within a min of idling they fouled as well.
I pulled the codes and here's what I got.

11. Throttle Position Sensor - I assume this needs to be reset. Could be my issue?

15. Intake air temp sensor - I forgot to hook this up the first time I put it back together.

16. Battery Voltage - had a bad / low battery when I bought it (new one now)

23. Front Fuel Injector
32. Rear fuel Injector
Don't know why these were thrown.

I assume the codes are stored until they are erased so I have an explanation for some but the injector codes, I'm not sure about. The only thing I know is it is running way too rich.
I've got an ECMspy cable on order.

Got an update on this issue JES? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, aren't the codes cleared when ignition is turned off? Meaning any code shown, is a present problem.

Historic
If a particular problem happens to resolve itself, the active
status problem is dropped and it becomes a historic fault
rather current fault.
Historic trouble codes are stored for a length of time to assist
in the diagnosis of intermittent faults. The check engine lamp
will not turn on during normal operation if only historic codes
are present.
It is important to note that historic trouble codes may also be
present whenever the system indicates the existence of a
current fault. See 4.4 CHECKING FOR TROUBLE CODES if
multiple trouble codes are found.

Thanks Dave...thats 11:25 of my life that I will never get back.

Hope you get your problems cleared up Jes.
