Deal or no deal

It would be 3200 plus taxes and tags. I dont feel like its a bad deal. His point was they can sit on it for a month till the weather starts to break get 3500 or better for it. Maybe he has a point.

if it's $3200 out the door your really paying $2850[up] buy,buy.buy.... and if the sales men wants to sit on it for more like 4 months(you live in chicago right) and take a gamble on $400 he's loss if you show him the money then walk out. i guarantee you he will call you back in a couple of days sh-t it's at a boat dealer, there motto is bust out another thousand for a boat they shouldn't care about a motorcycle.

I payed $4200 for my xb12R with 10,000 miles on it so $3200 dosent look so bad to me. I would try to get it out the door or that price though......never hurts to try. If it looks like its going to be $3200 + ttl se if he will meet you in the middle and do it like $3400 out the door......thats assuming ttl is around $400.

got my 08 xb12r for $3900. and I had it shipped to me from texas. there are a few good deals to be had on ebay atm, and then just use federal allied...

Bro, I just bought a 04 xb12r with a race ecm, pipe and filter with 7k miles for $3100...... honestly its a buyers market, 3200 included ttt is the most I would do..like others said be patient....don't be afraid to take a day road trip to buy your bike...

$3200 is a decent price. But if you look around you can find better deals I think. I have been looking at St. Louis craigslist and there are some decent deals out there. Ie, 2006 xb12r for $4000 and has less mileage. You may have to travel but that's how you get the goods. Me and a friend traveled 8 hours to pick up our Buells. Good luck no matter what bike you go with.

Thanks for the advise, I would not mind going a little further to look for a bike but is it really worth it? By the time you drive how many hours and blow through how much $3+ gas. Then there is the chance that you drive all that way to look at a bike and its a POS. I may just play the game and tell him I am still interested but he needs to come down on the price. I can always walk away and see if he comes to me. I did find 2 more similar bikes that are only 75 miles from here. One is almost identical to the one I looked at for the same price and one a little more with 9k on it. I guess the bottom line is there will always be a better deal out there at some point. Its all a matter of feeling like your getting a decent and taking the plunge.

this will give you a idea of whats out there
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/mcy/220949292 ...
now i know it's in my neck of the woods but there are hella deals out there.don't jump into something you might not be happy with, like a 03xb9r when you could have drove 2 hours away and got a 12r instead.

Not a bad price but this bike has an oil leak. I am not looking to buy someones problem.

shot all it could be is the oil cooler to the swingarm line a 5 minute fix. but that was only one example. there are tons of deals that pop up every week out here four days ago there was a 03xb9s for $1800 in sac but.. your in chicago so you would not be looking here any way. i was just trying to give you a idea. here is some food for thought don't let any one tell you that buells are more sot after because they don't make them anymore or that you can't get parts for them. the truth is buells are way harder to sell because it's less bang for your buck (horse power, speed and buell's cost more for insurance). buell riders are a select few, it a frame of mind so yes you will have to tinker with them almost like the old vw bus/bug but that is the fun of it.

pics , along with more info , would help us help you alot better,
$3k isnt a bad price if you dont want to drive for a couple of hours to find maybe a better price or maybe better or newer bike with less miles than the $3200 might be the way to go,
but I would search for at two weeks to a month or so or more, and while your looking, do alot of research(like here on Buellxb.com) on them and ask alot of questions, just to find the exact bike i would want to buy. remember for motorcycles winter is a great buyers time , for many reasons.

Other than size of the motor, is there any other big differences in the 9 and the 12?

a 12 is going to be an '04 or newer and thus will have the '04+ belt update

Also, 15,000 is alot for a Bike. See if it was beaten on and also check to see if it has a breather route installed. At that mileage if the owner did that chances are it was well maintained.

15,000 is not a lot for a bike at all, especially an '03
I bought my '03 with 8k on it 2 years ago and that was considered hardly ridden at all. I am now pushing 20k on it and probably wont have a good excuse (like it needing a rebuild anyway) to put in a big bore kit for another 40-60k depending on how a treat it. (if I keep up like I do probably 60k)

I don't think a breather reroute is a sign of a well maintained bike or not, I think there are many other more important things that would indicate a well cared for bike.

as for price, talk them down, or have them throw in some deal sweeteners like warranty/maintenance.

as for the age old 9 vs 12 argument, ride them both and see what you like best. I chose a 9 over a cheaper 12 because I enjoyed it more, your preference may differ. Each engine has its own characteristics, its much more than just displacement.

Well, I bought the bike Friday afternoon. He came down to 3k and I was good with that. I feel like I got a good deal on an unmolested bike. I spend some quality time in my heated garage this weekend trying to figure it out. My Harley is a LOT different so the Buell is new to me. I heard a rattle in the front in which I figured out is the high beam. Its lose which from what I understand is a pretty common problem. Looks like $40 will fix that. I am going to change all the fluids this week since the weather is going to suck. Anything I should be looking for while I am getting to know the bike? I will post some pictures as soon as I figure out how to get them up here. 2 quick questions since I have no owners manual: I assume it requires premium gas like my Harley does? Also, since there is no gas gauge, how can you tell how much gas is or isnt in it? Watch miles? If so, how many miles should I get out of a tank? I am gonna try to get the semi stale smelling gas out of it and fill it up with some seafoam.

I think my buddy fills up around 120 miles, not certain though. Maybe it's at 100.
Buellmods.com can help with the manual.

service manuals link above , and yes it takes 91 octane it . yes just look at the miles and take a look in the tank too in if you need to be fore you ride to see if you need to refill if you cant remember when was last gas up!
you should get around from 130 to 170 miles on a tank of gas depending on how you ride , how much your in the throttle and your speed and weight and mods . the fuel light will come come when you have about .75(3/4) of a gallon left in the tank. you can go from about 20 to 45 miles on that depending on your speed and weight and mods.
Pre '06 buell XB = 3.7 gallon fuel tank

here is some links to help you on milage and fuel .

True... The lead mech at a local independent HD service center near me has a very nice 12R and doesn't put much stock in the breather re-route. He hasn't even done it to his own bike.
