Has anyone tired to fasten the top of their license plate with butterfly bolts and the bottom with velcro for quick detachment? I'm thinking about doing that, because in the city plate theft is common, especially on motorcycles.

So, you want to make it easier for them to steal?

I would just use security bolts, instead of having to take off the plate every time you left the bike

Why not use 3M dual lock velcro top and bottom that stuff is amazing! I hold my EBR lithium battery down with it and it has never moved yet! Takes a bit of a tug to get it off but easy enough! s-l225.jpg s-l225 (1).jpg

My plate is riveted to my plate bracket. And the bracket is bolted inside the undertail. Its not accessible from the outside of the bike. Unless you have a torx bit and you take my tail apart.

Added bonus of removing the plate when you park, which I have to consider, is if you share a meter and the car moves and your left alone, the ticket fairy will be powerless. Of course, it might get towed then :sorrow: Really depends on how determined the meter maid will be... Also, sometimes I will pop my bike up on the sidewalk, out of the way by a tree or something, and removing the plate would be a plus I would think. Don't think parking on the sidewalk is a bad idea either. The other day I was working on my bike, in the street, and a guy got in his car and proceeded to back up directly at my bike. I slapped his rear window and got him to stop, he just barely touched my baby. I'll tell you I rained down a firestorm of rage on this dude, I thought he was gonna cry.

I never thought about removing the plate before, but I was washing my bike the other day and my buddy walked by and planted these thoughts in my head.

not trying to get off on a tangent, but I personally would like to hear more about this Tone. If you get bored sometime, start a new thread.

It is illegal to operate/park a motor vehicle on a public roadway. Most cities have ordinances against parking/blocking public sidewalks also. The meter maid could have the vehicle towed or call a traffic officer to help her locate the VIN number to identify the owner for ticket(s).

I was at my local bike dealer the other day and he was telling me how a bunch of bikers had pulled in to test ride some bikes, he then said how when they left and he saw the backs of their motorcycle, they had no plates on them, out of six bikes, not one plate ? In jersey there is supposedly an order not to chase !
