I think my bike may have a bad stator :((

It keeps killing the battery. The last time I rode her home, the headlights and dash lights were going really really dim...

I'm testing the voltage output... either it's a bad stator or a bad voltage regulator.... we'll see [down]

Keep me in the loop, PLEASE.;)
Not sure if I will be working or not as we have had 2 mechanics fire themselves in the last month and we are just getting to summer volume. Being shorthanded during the summer really sucks for trying to get a day off without using vacation time.[sad]

Surprisingly, my time also seems to be at a premium lately, obviously Saturday or Sunday are preferred and with a little notice I should be able to make anything. Wish I had the time or ambition to arrange something up my way but i work 50+ hours a week and I'm a drunk so that takes up most of my time... Work something up Jesse and I'll be there.

How about a Saturday in June and do what we did last time meet at Sheetz in Haymarket and go ride Skyline Drive. I would like to ride down a little farther than 211 this time...

Or meet at that Hamburger spot that we ate at last time at the bottom of 211 and then head south on Skyline Drive?

Just an idea, what are some other ideas?

User "oh9bolt" recommended that I introduce myself, so here I am.

My name is Jason. I'm 38. Professionally, I am a govvie IT consultant. I live in Alexandria and am a relatively new rider (MSF completed and license acquired in March this year). About a month ago, I purchased my first bike: a 2005 Firebolt. LOVE the bike. I have been on a few rides, accumulating almost 400 miles on the bike, including one impromptu Shenandoah trip 2 friday afternoons ago with my best friend (a rider with many years more experience than me) down some nice bendy back roads and over the VA-215 (I think that's the route number) pass (the one with the warning to riders that they are likely to die in the next few miles...lol...) and back again. Good times.

With my new [to me] bike and a $1500 trip to Coleman Powersports to get properly geared up, I'm definitely down for meeting fellow Buellers to ride with. As a new rider, I'm very cautious and not terribly fast (nor do I care to be until I've been riding consistently for a couple of seasons), and due possibly to my age and disdain for (fear of) the recovery time I know I'll have with even minor injuries, I'm not going to be someone cajoled into taking stupid risks even if (shocking, I know...) my manhood is impugned... ;) So, if there are any rides with groups of patient folk that aren't going to be flustered by inability/unwillingness to keep up, I'm certainly down. Schedule-wise, I generally have my kids the 2nd and 4th weekends of every month, so those weekends are usually out, but I do have a fair amount of flexibility in my work schedule on most thursdays and fridays (independent consulting has a couple of perks... ;)).

In any case, look forward to hearing from you guys. Glad to see so many similarly obsessed Buell fanatics so close to home! :)

Sounds good Jason! I dont think you will have any problems with anyone hassling you about going faster. Ride your own ride is what I say, I am slow myself. :)

So what's the word Neil, last time we did a Skyline Drive meet razman (Ray) stayed at a hotel in front royal the night before, is that a option for you?

It's definitely an option Jesse, but I doubt I'd be able to nail anything down till we got a little closer to a date. Work has been brutally busy lately tho I'm hoping to move to a new position in the company to relieve that. A Saturday ride would probably work best for me... I would love to do a Skyline Drive run so I'll do my best to make it.

If I can make another one this year I plan on doing the same. It was nice not having to start the trip before dawn, ride all day, and then have a 3 hour ride home. If you are pinching pennies I am down to splitting a room. Just let me know.
Summer line volume has kicked in full force here at Frito Lay, plus we are a couple of mechanics short. These are my scheduled 3-day weekends off. As long as I am not the mechanic actually "crewed" (read forced) to work, I will make sure not to volunteer.
June 14th-16th
July 12th-14th
Aug 9th-11th
Sept 6th-8th
I will be out of the hunt after the beginning of September. My oldest daughter will be starting college this fall at University of Rhode Island and I plan to take a week, visit her at school, and tour the New England states on Bruiser. Hoping to time it when the fall foliage is at its peak.
