That is an S model which has been discontinued in 09. CGs are shorter than all S models, and Ss(long) are taller and longer than all S models.

The Ss is going to feel too big, and the Scg is going to feel too small. I would go for a regular XB12S if I were you. Look for an 07, it was the best year for buells.

The one in your Ebay link is either an S or an SCG, most likely an S. They didn't make the SS (Long) until '06. I'm 5'10 and with a low seat can just stand flat-footed on my '06 S. I wish I'd had the chance to try out an SCG just to feel the difference.

As far as your situation, it depends. I'd probably shoot for an SCG if I were you. Though an SS has a little more room for passengers and a longer wheel base which should make it a little more stable if that's what you're looking for.

Whatever your decision, you can't go wrong with a Buell. ;)[up]

Edit: Here's a thread with the same question as you: Get an SS or SCG?

I'm 5'10" as well and I just demo'd a SCG two weeks ago. It felt great. Really compact, but not cramped. I've never ridden the SS or S to compare.

The Ss is only taller than the S on the 09 models, It's the same on 06-08. The easiest way to tell an Ss is that the upper belt guard and rear tire hugger is one piece (assuming it hasn't been modified). the next best way to spot an Ss is by the swingarm, it is about an inch longer. Your inseam is more of a true indicator than height on what will fit. My 30" inseam worked ok with my Ss but only after I shaved the seat 2". Honestly I wish I had gotten the Scg. Also weight is something to consider as heavier riders with a Scg report bottoming the suspension on occasion. Also the type of riding you will do most can have an influence, Scg will have more razor sharp handling due to shorter wb and more aggressive front end geometry, while the Ss is better for the long hauls and passengers thanks to larger fuel tank and longer seat.

The Ss also has a larger fuel capacity, if that matters to you, as well as a couple of seat options (standard and touring). The wheelbase difference is small - both would handle really well (better than most of us can ride, I'm sure!). Do what you can to try both (and a regular S) and see. FWIW, I'm 5'6 and on an Ss. If I want to flat-foot it, I can hop on my wife's Blast, which is a hoot.

You may also want to think if you plan to have a passanger more often than not.

The Ss can support two riders, were the Scg can but with nearly no comfort.

I'm 5'10 and have the 0912Ss. I can't flat foot it but have no problems with it. I think the smaller bike would be a bit cramped for me.

If you don't spend hours in the saddle you could shave the seat like this and get flat footed. (The best $40 I spent on mine)

I'm 5'7", with short legs, and just got a CG. It's perfect for me. Any taller and I'd want the regular S, for sure.

I'm 5'6", I love the feel of the CG, but I wouldn't want to sacrifice handling, so I'd get a S with a low seat. (if I were to get a lightning)

Is anyone here over 6 foot tall? I really like the xb12ss long but have never been on one and I'm concerned how I'll fit. Im 6'5" and have been riding CBRs and Ninjas my whole life but really want to switch to a Buell. Any suggestions?

Is there any difference in the dimensions or any other specs of the 08 and 09 XB12Ss? I’m really in love with the translucent orange.

After borrowing an 1125R for a week, I rode a clean '07 Ss at a dealer today. It felt very, very good. The seat, bars and position were excellent for me 6' (34" inseam). I could spend the day there, whereas the 1125R was 'sportbike demanding' and wore me out (in a happy sort of way).

I also stopped in to see a KTM 690 Duke, which may seem an odd competitor for my heart but it is built like Buell would design a big single. I wish he would. The dealer wants $10k for the Duke, which is a lot of coin for a simple, but quality single.

I'm sure that the cg is a smidge more compact, etc, but I'm not sure that the difference is material. The Ss was very nimble. Another wonderful Buell.

The 09 is taller. Specs say the 08 is 30.5 and the 09 is 30.6. But the 09 feels much taller to me.

Thanks for the info. Correct me if im wrong but if I got the black 09 I could simply buy the orange translucid parts to replace?

You could. They come in red, blue, and black. The wheels are colored as well. If you got the black, you could sell the parts easily. I know I would buy your airbox cover.

I was thinking black so I wouldn't have to replace the wheels. Thanks again for the help. I'm going next week to hopefully purchase one. I'll keep you posted.
