Well If you have ever seen the insides of the normal drummer..........its the same. I have been hearing a metalic rattle and I traced it down to my Drummer SS. Me being the DIY'er I am I decided that this was a job I could do my self. I pulled my pipe apart to find that almost all the packing had been blown out and all that was left was a slim layer of packing with a layer of yellow packing tape holding it all together. The ends were sealed with enough red hightemp silicone to keep the Titanic afloat and it seems the stainless screws used to hold the end caps on seized to the aluminum caps and pulled most of the threads out. Now Im headed to Lowes to find a stainless screw I can use and a new tap for the threads. Over all Im still happy with my pipe.....just not happy about having to retap the endcaps. She should be back together tomorrow & Purring along with new packing and hardware. I am having problems uploading the pics I took, but will continue to try.

if the threads are trashed you can get some helicoils.
just have to drill out larger, tap that and the internal threads are what u need. had to do it on an aluminum robot arm that had stainless screws. at work

Don't get helicoils get timeserts they are actually stronger than the original threads and won't wear out like helicoils.

I already tapped the holes one size larger and put it back together. It was only on 3 out of the 12 holes and it was caused by moisture getting around the threads.....the holes are drilled all the way through to the inside area of the muffler. All is good now....shes back together and waiting to get reinstalled.

Pics as promised......

So basically you are paying for the fancy end caps??? Otherwise there doesn't look to be any work into the pipe. Not to mention you can't use it as a point to jack up the bike since the cross brace are gone[sad]

thats it nothing else 5 bills for a coffee can with stainless ends.i was thinking about getting one i guess ill make one instead.

Hawk pipes have baffles in them not just a straight shot, never seen the insides but Randy said he has his own baffles for them to get the glow and sound he wanted to get.

He does make a straight through pipe for the 1125's that are for racing but otherwise he has baffles to make them somewhat toned down for the street.

the only stainless parts ar the inlet and body. The endcaps are billet aluminum.
The upside to these pipes are .................
1. No rust issues
2. the end caps are made specificly for a 9 or 12 (both reg and SS ).
3. Proven ( I think) Dyno results for each muffler.

I do think that the price is a bit steep for those that may buy a new can, but there aint a ton of these floating around either. I think he told me in one of our email chats that he has only produced about 450 of the Drummer SS pipes total and that is world wide.

Now if I had been in the market for a new Drummer SS and saw this I would deff think twice, but I will say that the quality is there and I am extreanly happy with my pipe. My pipe looks like a brand new pipe and is at least 4 years old.

Have you guys looked at the GB exhaust? They are stainless as well and use a magnaflow muffler.
