ok so I have seen all of your awesome mods to get the dual headlight on the hight beam... but why cant we just wire everything exactly like the R models? doesn't the R models turn on the dual headlight on high beam or am I mistaken? all we need to do is get someone with an xb12r maintenance manual and have them make a copy of the headlight wiring schematic. that way we dont lose the flasher.

yes, the XB12R has dual lights by default, but they also have a completely different wiring harness. That is why us lightning owners have to mod our harnesses to emulate what the XB12R does by stock...

What kind of lights are you looking to use? Halogen or HID?

HID's from ddm, but even if i have to run some wires it would be better than losing some cool things

here is what I did...

since I did HIDs in both lights, I decided I wasn't going to use my flash button anymore, not that I ever really used it anyway. I make the flash button trigger the low-beam light. So I can turn the key, prime the fuel and start the bike without worrying about the HIDs coming on. Once I start the bike, I hit the flash button, and here comes the low-beam...

ALTERNATE IDEA: I know it’s a little more complicated!

I designed and installed a similar mod which adds a commonly-used trailer towing diode to safely merge the LO and the HI BEAM wires. It also keeps the Front Marker Lamp working normally when the ignition key is in PARK. The diode is rated at 6A and the combined current for both LO/HI lamps is 4.5A so there’s plenty of current margin.

The diode can be purchased online or at any RV Trailer dealer.

My schematic changes are shown in the picture.

This mod is installed behind the windshield fairing.

Using a Quick Splice T-Tap Connector (14-18AWG), splice onto the WHITE wire between the 39B Connector and the 38B Connector. Using a short piece of 14-18AWG wire, connect a Quick Splice Female Connector terminal on each end. Push one female terminal on the T-Tap Connector and push the other female terminal onto the Blue Ox diode male terminal (pick one of the blue ox male terminals on the end where there are 2).

Cut YELLOW wire between the 24A Connector the 38B Connector. Install a Quick Splice Female Connector terminal (14-18AWG) on each end of the cut yellow wire. Push the female terminal which is connected to the 24A Connector onto the other unused Blue Ox male terminal on the end where there are 2. Push the remain terminal which is connected to the 38B Connector onto the Blue Ox male terminal on the end where there is only 1.

It's a pretty easy mod but proceed at your own risk - anytime you modify a bike there's always a chance of messing up.

I was running the DDM HIDs for several years, but recently updated the lamps to DDM LEDs (I believe it's their Saber line of LEDs) - the output is immediate and is actually better than the HID. Just saying. I used the typical pin swap mod on the connector and it works great.
