Dumb newbie question

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

On the XB, you get a light and a fuel trip comes up on the odometer. From that point, I'd say get gas within 20 miles or so. I usually just hit up the next gas station because I'm paranoid! LOL

Depending on your driving habits, you'll get around 100 miles out of a tank. I set my trip at each fill up so I can monitor it.

You might get closer to 180 miles if you have a ss,stt,x, or xt. 4.4 gal.fuel capacity and stock mileage usually between 40 and 55mpg. I usually have a gallon left when the low fuel light comes on. But every buell is a little different.

I have an 05 XB9R. I'm hoping gas mileage is pretty decent. I bought the bike back in November and haven't really riden it yet. It's my first motorcycle ever, so I apologize in advance the dumb questions.

Thank y'all for the answers!

When I get close to 100 I usually start thinking about a gas station. But the gas light has always worked for me. Never pushed it much more then 10-15 miles with the light on.

Yeah just go by the light. Make sure there's a station within 20 miles or so. I get anywhere from 46-49 mpg on my xb12s. I always try to fuel up asap lol. I dont like risking it

I set my trip at each fill up so I can monitor it.
[up]Yup, this is the method just about everyone I know uses. On my Ss with the larger 17L (4.4gal) capacity, that translates to ~250km (~150mi) until I start looking for a gas station, and ~300km (~200mi) before I become concerned about pushing the bike!

a word of advice. if you made it to the side of the road [mad] and DIDNT SEE the light... take your pump out and check the wiring on it for loose grounds or broken,/ grounding wires.. .. past that, i start looking for a gas station between 100 and 120 miles from last fillup, and lika stated above.. i reset the trip meter at every fill up. :D

It's not a dump question, if you don't know the answer. The spec's I have here are for a 08 Lightning and I think they are the same for a 05 "R".
Total fuel tank (including reserve) 3.82 U.S. gal.
Reserve 0.75 gal.
You have two trip meter's, reset one when you fill up, see how far you have gone and how much fuel you have used, and how much fuel is left. This will give you a good idea on how far you can go.
Hope this helps Raven

I'm not sure when the change was, but earlier bikes had the hole in the frame that was intended t be used for a turbo pipe. In later years they closed off the hole and increased the size of the fuel tank.

I have an 05 with the 3.7 gallon tank and I average around 130 miles to a tank before the light comes on. so about 150 miles. maybe 170 if its all highway.

my '03 9s, 120 miles before the light comes on and about 20 miles before stopping for fuel, haven't pushed it any further
