Ok, so I got a cable and downloaded ecmspy from this site well, someone on this site anyway, and every time I try to connect it just tells me "failed to get com port". Can anyone help me get this stupid thing working? I using Windows XP, if that matters and my ecmspy version is 1.12.26. I got the driver from the disc that came with the cable. I can't remember the version on that one.
HELP PLEASE!

I would definitely uninstall that driver for the cable and install a different one. I'm not 100% sure where I got mine, but I can email you a copy of the driver I used if you'd like. Buellmods.com *might* also have the driver as a download.

Figured it out. The cable I got off of e-bay was not assembled very well. The pins were not pushed all the way locked into the connector so it wasn't getting full contact with the diagnostic plug. [mad]
Just did a TPS reset and saved the stock eeprom and fuel tables.

As a side thought, is it possible to tell if the bike has the race computer (or race map) already in it from looking at the fuel tables or such? I did notice that the active muffler control was already turned off.

thanks for the offer to help guys[cool][up]

Um....good question, but sorry that I don't have answer on the race ecm other than looking at the ecm itself.

Oh - and no problem on the help. Anytime.

I feel you. At least the only two "non-heated" sides are the neighbors garage (duplex home) and of course the garage door. Once you get working though it's not too bad.

yes
see if the ecm says for race use only on it or
open a second ecmspy window with the race map for that year and see if it matches your maps in the first original window, if not try other years race maps in the second window. hope that is understandable.

Shouldn't the "Calibration ID" identify the ECM as race or on-road?
On-road (stock) ECMs usually have an ID such as "49:US", while every Race ECM I have seen has something like "106:p&A".

I checked the fuel maps and mine seems to be the same as the race map (pretty nice that you can run 2 instances of ecmspy at the same time). If it's not a race ECM someone mapped it the same. All the same to me.

i bought the cable off of ebay also! never got it to work, gave up on ecm spy altogether, real shame.... even hooked up with buellmods administrator, he took over my computer.... couldnt get it done. maybe i should try pluggin the wires in individually

jason what operating system are you using on your computer it seems to work best with XP for most people but can be used with other too, and did you downlaod and install the correct drivers for the cable?

read the EcmSpy guides version 2. on xotopi.com or google it. tells you how to .

what year is your Buell?
is it the cable or ecmspy not working?
if all esle fails check the connections in the cable to make sure the all have good contact in the conectors and plug.

I had that problem too. I ran ECM spy as administer today at it said failed to open com. I fetched EEPROM anyways and it worked. Running vista!

nativexb12r, i am using windows xp... i believe i downloaded the right drivers, if i didnt buellmods admin sure did, he couldnt get it to work either, at this point i will pay someone to tune the bike, im in los angeles tho and i dont know of any tuners here

For those that got their cable from ebay and it says "error failed to get com port" I had the same problem. I just clicked Communication Options (4th button from the left on the top, looks like a little plug) and then clicked auto-detect with the cable already plugged in and my key switched on and kill switch on. Give it another try and see if that works.

My ebay cable didn't work either. It wouldn't connect to the bike at all and I was getting frustrated. I took the end apart and the pins were not pushed all the way up, so I had the cable "connected" but the pins weren't actually connecting. After I pushed the pins up it connected flawlessly. So for all the people that have trouble with the ebay cables I suggest checking that out first.

Hummm. Interesting facts about ebay cables. I got one too and i couldn't connect to the bike no matter how much i tried, two lappys with Win7 and XP, auto detect port, etc... Plugged in my friend's cable and bam! no problem on either laptop. Contacted the seller, they'll replace it. But i will definitely check the pins on both of them.

I ordered my cable from eBay also. Still waiting for it to arrive any day now. Sure hope mine works out w/o any problems.
