I did a few searches(here and google) but I couldn't find a clear answer so hopefully one of you may know... what are the system requirements for ecmspy? What version of windows? Does it need to be usb2.0? I was looking ata cheap netbook and it runs a "windows embedded compact..." something or other, will it work? It is super cheap so it would be ideal. Thanks for looking/helping.

I'm not exactly sure what is required, but it's a pretty simple program. I run it on my 2005 laptop. Windows XP, 1gb ram, 1ghz celeron processor. I believe it's usb 2.0. It runs fine.

I know it's best to use XP, some have issues using vista or windows 7.

My wife had a netbook for a while with the condensed version of windows 7 and IIRC I did have it set up on that computer....can't recall for sure though...

once you get the cable then all you need to do is download the ecmspy from online right?

Don't buy it from eBay. Get it from http://xoptiinside.com/ it's the cheapest place to get the cable period.

Also he has just 1 driver to install easily found on that site. Also ECM spy mono (the one you get from the ECM spy webpage) requires a donation to activate.

If you search you can find the version that doesn't require a donation to activate. But, hey what's wrong with donating a little bit of money to help a needy cause, and you get the newest ecmspy with no question of its authenticity. It's a win win.

Also, I'd like to add this bit of info for the future:

This past weekend I was setting up a computer that is going to be dedicated to my bike. I installed Windows 8 (no not xp, not vista, not win 7... win 8)

ECMSpy works just fine! One issue I did have is the driver for my cable. I've got the xopti inside cable (as stated above) it runs on the Prolific USB-COM driver. Windows 8 already has that driver! I had installed the driver for my cable but windows kept saying it couldn't use the device. I had to uninstall the cable, delete the driver, then reinstall the cable and let windows use it's built in (and newer) driver.

SOOO from the looks of it, when windows 8 comes out and you hook your usb cable up, there are no drivers to install (at this point)

once I got the cable to actually grab a COM port, ECMSpy connected and it seemed to even connect, and fetch maps faster than on windows 7

Could you give some more info on the cable driver in Win 8? I can't get it to work. I tried both drivers and no luck. Currently have Prolific driver 3.4.48.272 and it says in "General" "Properties" This device cannot start. (Code 10)

A device which does not exist was specified.

Any advice? Anyone else have it working in Win 8?
