I need some serious help.

My bike is just done at the workshop, I had to replace my cylinders and pistons.
After I got the bike back I took it for a test run and everything went ok for apr. 200 km.
Suddenly the bike wouldn't pull over 3-4000 rpm (100/130 km/h).

The setup is XB12s 2004.
Stage 1 kit (race ECM, race exhaust and K/N filter).

It seems like the Electronic Valve is dead.
Will it have any effect to buy the Valve Emulator to fix the problem?
Do anyone experienced similar problems?

Suddenly the bike wouldn't pull over 3-4000 rpm
Need a better description than "wouldn't pull over..." - Does it start stuttering, or does the engine die completely, etc.

The emulator is for after market exhausts that don't have a valve, it is just to fool the ecm into thinking it is still working

If you have the entire race kit.....Muffler, ECM and fiter....then the exhaust servo located on top of the air box is not needed. The race Ecm has it disabled and the race muffler does not even have a valve in it.

Could you shed a little more light on what your bike is doing......this will help us help you.

Thanks so far......

When I say wan´t pull over 3-4000 rpm (apr.120/130 km/h), the engine behave like it don´t get enough air and stutters. If I turn full throttle it just keeps like 3-4000 rpm´s.

I was told that maybe the exhaust servo is fault, and that I needed to order a emulator as a cheap replacement.

What exactly does the emulator do? Couldn´t I just pull the plug away from the servo and ride without? Or do I need something to send signals to the ECM?

It´s a bit difficult to explain more precicely in english so I hope you understand my problem :)

Since you have the Stage 1 kit the muffler doesn't have the exhuast valve in it and the ECM doesn't care about the Exhaust servo that's on top of your airbox. Don't get an emulator just take it off completely. If all you said is true as far as mods, the exhuast servo isn't your problem.

For your problem, I'd start simple by checking all of my battery connections and trace my frame Grounds and make sure they're all good & tight. If you have ECMSpy, go ahead and reset your TPS to take it out of the equation. Post back up after checking.

I have already done a TPS reset, both my self and at the local Harley/Buell dealer (who also did the engine repair).
The dealer told me that if the exhaust servo was broken, it woldn't send the correct signals to the ECM (when the speed exeeds 120km/h apr) even if I had a race muffler on. That's one of the things I have a hard time to understand.

If it's like I really don't need a exhaust servo, why do people by the emulator at all? Couldn't I just take the whole thing away and ride without?

Thanks for helping out :)

Pics of your bike would help us determin it you trully have a race muffler or if you have been missinformed. If you have a race muffler AND Ecm YOU DO NOT NEED THE SERVO located on top of the air box. It sounds to me like the dealer you are using may not know what they are talking about.

...why do people by the emulator at all?
If a rider adds a pipe, but keeps the stock ecm, they buy an emulator to keep from throwing codes. I'm with Freak, sounds like you're dealer may not know what he's talking about.

And those with ECMSPY simply turn off the servo check, eliminating the need for an emulator.

The only picture I've got is the one in my profile.

I'm sure it's the race muffler, it says "not for street use" on it, and the connection from the servo has never been connected as long as I've owned the bike.
The dealer told me that I still needed either the original exhaust servo or an emulator to send the right signals to the ECM.

Are you saying that the bike will run perfect with nothing in the end of the wire that is connected to the exhaust servo originally, as long as I have the race muffler?

Sorry if I sound a bit confusing, but I don't get this as you probably understand :)

If you have the RACE Ecm....the servo does not need to be on the bike.....Its just extra weight and nothing needs to be plugged in because the RACE ecm is not looking for the servo motor.

IF you have a STOCK Ecm it needs to be plugged in to the wireing harness. The cable that runs to the STOCK muffler can be tied back out of the way since the RACE muffler DOES NOT have a place to hook up the cable.

STOCK MUFFLER+Stock ECM = cable and wiring harness hooked up.

Race muffler + stock Ecm = cable unhooked but harness plugged into servo motor.

Race muffler + race Ecm = No cable and no servo motor.

Its really not that hard to understand, if you trully know what your bike has on it.

Looking at you pic shows you do indeed have a RACE muffler. Now if you look at your ECM located under your seat it should say "FOR RACE USE ONLY" if it was the Ecm offered in the "RACE KIT". If it does then you dont need the servo motor or cable. Just leave the plug for the servo motor laying there unplugged.

Ok, thanks.....then I will try to testride it without the connection to the servo.

I know for sure that I also have got a race ECM, and the bike has been working perfect before I had to replace the cylinders etc, and it also worked 100% the first 200km after I got it back from the workshop.
This was something that occured during my third ride after I got it back last week.
I was out riding and everything was ok, until suddenly it wouldn't pull over 4000 rpm in 4th and 5th gear. When I tried to give it full throttle, it just stutters, and refuse to speed up.
First I was strake that I had damaged the new cylinders, but it seems to be ok in lower speeds, and the compression seems to be ok.

I know that I got an error the first time I connected to ECMSpy, but silly me managed to delete the code before I wrote it down. Is there a way to force ECMSpy to get the code visible again?

Again thanks to you guys with all the knowledge, this forum has helped me more than once:):)

Have you checked to make sure the Spark plug wires are fully seated on the plugs? Best way I know to get the code back is to ride the bike in the same manner as before. If it set once it should do it again if the problem is still there.

The dealer told me that I still needed either the original exhaust servo or an emulator to send the right signals to the ECM.

The servo is not needed at all for the bike to run properly. If the ECM expects to see the servo, and it is not there or not plugged in it will simple throw a check engine light, but the bike will run just fine. The servo IS NOT your problem. Take the bike back to the dealer and make them fix it properly.
