So I found another bueller in my town finely hes got a 04 xb12 but is having some problems we are trying to figure out.
Problem #1: When the bike is in neutral and you blip the throttle quick even when the engine is warm it wants to cut out and die.
Problem #2: When taking off from a stop mid gear the bike bogs down and i noticed while following him it smells really rich.
The bike has a jarden gp1 exhaust k&n filter and a ebr ecm for said mods. Plugs have been changed at a buell friendly Harley shop. Timing has been checked crank position sensor has been changed.
I ride a 08 1125r and have the cable and tuner pro for my bike will this also work with the 04 xb12 to try a tps reset?

The TPS reset wouldn't hurt ... but don't get into the habit of relying on it as a fix-all ... I see that thrown out as suggestions to more problems than anything else ... on the flip-side, it's easy to do so I definitely wouldn't say not to ... someone else on here was having a similar sounding problem and he went ahead and just replaced his TPS ... Fixed his issues ... One way to test the function of the TPS is to look at the output voltage or reading with whatever you're using to get a look inside the ECM with and see if it's a smooth output with no spikes or drops when you open it smoothly from closed to open and back ... if you see any jumps, or wonky readings that sensor has some bad sectors in it ...

Also might want to look at the AVF with tunerpro or ECMspy and see if it's getting thrown way off ... could point towards either a bad tune if you've recently changed the map in it, or the beginnings of a failing O2 sensor ...

Just my 0.02 ... :)

Tps sensor was also replaced at harley. problem #3: i just found out the bike wont go faster than 90mph[confused]
I'm so baffled by this thing.
So for resetting the tps on the 04 bikes you need to be connected to the computer right? I cant remember when they changed that because I can just manually reset it with the throttle.

So we tried to connect to tunerpro and I cant get the computer to see the bike can anyone help

I can help with ECMspy no problem man, but i'm not familiar with tunerpro to be able to walk you through setting it up ... I installed tunerpro but never really got into it ... yes you need to be connected to the computer to reset the TPS ...

We won't have to worry about messing up the ebr ecm as long as we aren't trying to load data to it right? Can we run a data log on the bike to check it all out?

I have no reliable data to go off of on that ... Some people have said they've done things with and to theirs without incident ... Others are paranoid to the point of suicide if they so much as hook the bike up to ECMspy ...

I just changed the maps and parameters of my stock ECM to mimic a race ECM ... Saved myself about $300 ... Same results ... And I can freely tamper with it without worrying ... Do you still have the stock ECM ?? ...

Say whaaaaat?!?! ... That's YOUR part !! lol ... I'd go back and see if they still had it ... no way I'd give that thing up ! ...

But anyway, on topic ... I've seen people hook their bikes up to ECMspy with an EBR ECM and READ the data off of there ... but there's been sketchy reports about people trying to WRITE stuff to the ECM and bricking it ... Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to just read the info ... But I'd give EBR a call before I tried to write anything to it ... just my 0.02

Yea i said the same thing when i heard that no idea why they would have kept it. I've also heard the same of its ok to read just not write to it.

Ok well going to be hooking the bike up this weekend negative any chance i could get your number to talk to you about the ecm spy

Ok finally got time to ride his bike my self and holy hell this thing is gutless. I felt like i was ridding my sv650. So i did get it to go faster than 90 the throttle cable had a bunch of slop got that taken care of but seriously. I thought the twist was long on the on the 1125 this xb is crazy the first twist gets you to a 100 or so then you need to re position to Finnish it out.
Also there is a horrible squeak from the front engine area around the 4k rpm area was going to start with some wd40 on the dog bone. Any other things to look for?
Now a snapped this picture while the bike was idling does this all look good? Also how do i do a data log with the ecmspy?

The XB's do have quite a bit of travel on the throttle twist you're right on that ... My S1 is the same way ... By contrast, my R6 and 954 don't need you to adjust your grip to go from full closed to full open ...

On the squeaking front area ... Recently I've seen one person say that a quick shot of chain lube on the front dogbone took care of it ... another was the front isolator/motor mount going bad ... another was the upper dogbone squeaking ... there's lot of little places that can start an annoying noise due to the way these motors mount to the frames ... my Japanese bikes are hard mounted to the frame so there's no issues like these to deal with often ... I would inspect all of these areas listed personally ... just my 0.02

And finally ... that screenshot of ECMspy shows me that the idle is terribly rich looking a the EGO correction value ... it's only putting in roughly 87% of the fuel map's value in that particular idle cell ... But the AFV shows me that the upper end of the rev range in the closed loop running areas isn't that bad being's it's only showing a 105.3 ... This means it's only adding about 5% of the fuel cell's values in the cruising range (about 2.5k-4kish) ... When I first got my XB the fueling was TERRIBLY off ... the idle was stupid rich, the mid range was insanely lean, and the top end was all over the place (lean for 500 rpms, rich for 500 rpms, then lean again ... partly because of a crappy exhaust and partly from numerous sensor issues) ...

On the EBR ECM read/write subject ... I've received pretty reliable info saying you CAN read/write an EBR ECM without issues from a member on here in another thread ... He says he's done it numerous times without ill effects yet ... That being said, I would start retuning that idle area ... That should strengthen up the 'off idle' response, which should help both leaving from a standstill and general low end operation ...

Datalogging can be done with both ECMspy itself and a program called Megalog ... Megalog lets you see graphs and even suggests possible changes to the maps to help you get to whatever preferred AFR's at certain RPM/throttle ranges ... For example, if you're shooting for 14.7/1 in the closed loop ranges (which you should be) you can set the program to read the O2 outputs and shoot for that particular AFR in the cruising ranges ... you can shoot for about 17/1 on the decel to prevent a lot of popping ... and you can shoot for about 12-13/1 for the WOT range to give maximum power ... if you tune the closed loop areas correctly, the rest of the map outside of closed loop will not be changed by the ECM during normal operation because the other areas are outside of it's "learning" parameters ... Clear as mud ?? ...

Yes ... I recognize some of those things as um ..... numbers ... lol ...

My suggestion is to download a program called Megalog to help you translate that ocean of numbers into some nice, simple, color-coded graphs for those of us with much lower IQ's to understand ................................ such as myself lol
