I did the trade and got the bike. 2008 buell ulysess xb12xt. Now the check engine light came on and its a code 14. Engine Temp Sensor. Can someone tell me where its located at please? Also, the battery is charging right now, but I found under the headlights there's a torx screw that has 2- eye loops with black ground wires going to them. The torx was loose, so the grounds were loose to. The wires appeared to go back into the large wire loom towards the engine. Does somebody know what those grounds are for? Or better yet have a wiring diagram? Much help would be appreaciated. I'm new to this so i don't know where the engine temp sensor is on the motor.

Thanks
Craig

The temp sensor is on the top/center of the rear head.
The wires are the grounds for the dash and lights.

Hey Craig, the Temperature Sensor isn't too expensive. Make sure to remove it and replace it before riding too much in traffic since it controls the Rear Cylinder Cooling fan . A Crows foot [SIX point] Wrench or Socket usally will fit down in there. There is also a special Socket you can use so as not to damage the wiring .
Deep Well o2 sensor[ socket] with the small slot down the side (FOR the wires) does a good job on that area. And yes eventually you will need it to replace the o2 sensor so you will have the tool ready in the Tools Box. There are other tools as you go along have fun with your Ride it's a great Bike.* Jimi

By the way, it's good you know were that ground on the steering column is ... the wires often break due to turning the handlebars back and forth. I have had to repair the wires there twice already (one of the ground wires is for the headlights).

Update lol. Sorry its been a while.. I did replace it and no luck. Still throws the same code. Is the fan something I should be able to hear run? I'm thinking on just running a toggle switch and wiring it. So during country road cruising do i have to worry about it over heating or just driving 25 mph through town?

Also can anybody tell me how to clear the codes?? I remember I unhooked the battery for a while and did that. But will that work or do i have to take it to a stealership?

if you don't have access to ecmspy to clear the codes it usually works if you disconnect the battery cables for 24 hours. that should clear the code. i disconnect both cables but that's me.

I figured it all out when I tore the bike down to paint it. I found the fan was actually unplugged :( The previous owner must of unplugged it but it works now fine.
