alright, another quesion.
Just got the buell serviced and hoping that it would clear this issue but it seems worse than ever.
Here are a list of my issues:
1)bike actually SOUNDS different when it's running i'm not sure what's up with that but it's very strange.
2)there is a yellowish whitish froth around the top of my oil tank. WHAT?!?! Looks almost exactly like the stuff that comes out of my breather reroute.
3)Whenever i rev the bike high or run it hard the engine light comes on and the bike runs super crappy. It dies if I rev it quickly or if i let it idle.
Any ideas? I'm pretty peeved at this point as i would just like to ride!!
could all of these be connected
I tried to pull error codes on ecm spy but all it says is active exhaust control which has never been connected (aftermarket exhaust)

1) Different than what? Since when? Any recording of the sounds? The sounds before?
2) Yellowish whitish froth is usually water or a lot of condensation in your oil:(
3) What's super crappy? When does it start doing that? Does it get better? When?

1) Different that it has in my previous years of riding it.. no, i dont have any recordings. It usually sounds like a smooth roar and now it sounds like a chattering, broken, cheaper more metalic roar.
2)It might be condensation.. i'm not sure how it would get in there though... i guess this winter was kinda rough.... ill have to check it often and see if it continues to accumulate
3)It changes idle speed sputters, will frequently slow and sputter. It only starts doing this after the engine light comes on. Once the light is on it won't idle for even 30 seconds. It just dies off... but then it starts right up again no problem when i try. The light usually goes off if i ride it around nice and easy for a bit.

2)there is a yellowish whitish froth around the top of my oil tank.

Around the oil tank or primary? Its common for water to seep thru the clutch cable boot, whether its rain, bike wash or condensation. This leads directly to the primary via the cable.
In the oil tank, it could be a loose oil cap/drain plug or even the oil return lines.

2 distinctly different issues you're describing. any degradation to oil whether primary sump or motor sump that causes frothing and yellowish/whitish colors is excessive moisture. from where? that's for you to determine.
your CEL activation....stalling...high speed cut-out associated with a warm/hot motor? if so it's electrical and it's heat related and i'd start with proper ecmspy diagnosis. visually check your ecm for seat rubbing it, check for cracks at connections...clean tight battery cable connections...and consider trying another ecm.

07, it's oil tank, not primary

Lunatic. Yes, i do believe they are unrelated issues. The largest area of concern for me is the cel. Hmmm, I'm not sure it's heat related as it will do it if i turn the bike on and rev it right away or if i've been riding for an hour and decide to start riding harder. Whatever the situation once that light comes on things do not run the same! I will check out the ecm for any visual signs of wear/connection/distress.

thanks for your advice so far guys. any other guesses or hints?

ok, here's another interesting change. My bike now takes a long time to return to idle. Sometimes i think it will never get there but if i let out the clutch a little and let it drag the idle down just a little bit it returns and idles fine. I have been running the same maps now for about a year and have never had this trouble on them before now.

Make sure the air intake boot is secured and sealed. And its clamped in place correctly. I had the same problems and it was something simple like that. Don't forget the PCV's have a tendency to vibrate out of seating. I eventually seated my PCV's with silicone after a breather re-route. They often pop up out of place because these bikes vibrate something fierce.

07Bolt
how do the pcv's vibrate out of place? aren't they tucked under the frame a bit? i can see a little weepage around them at the gromets but they are certainly not out. My intake boot seems fine. do you have to rotate the engine to replace the pcv's?

At this point now there is an abundance of 'gunk' coming out of my breather reroute. Much much more than usual. Its to the point that there are drips all over my rear rim from it dripping as I ride. What in the world would cause that?!

my ecm looks fine visually. no loose electrical connections that i can find anywhere.

one issue at a time.
excess goop emanating from your breather re-route tube is either an abundance of water/moisture in your oiling system....or excessive oil level(over 2.5 quarts with filter and dry fill)......or a cracked piston and/or excessively worn rings. it cannot be generated from any other sources.

you mentioned ecmspy and pulling codes. run it again...check for trouble codes...deactivate your interactive exhaust feature....and reset your tps CORRECTLY then ride in learn mode for 25 miles.

and what 07bolt said on intake. i would remove air box cover, filter, IAT sensor plug, base plate and have a look at your plate to throttle body boot. it's held on by giant pinch-ring. if it is not perfectly seated and clamped these motors will act quite odd and make a hell of an intake racket.

ok, lunatic

I checked my oil level hot and it is below the overfilled line. It's a little above the middle of the ok section but not overfilled. I shouldn't have an abundance of moisture, i just changed my oil and filter, and checked all my oil lines, caps, plugs. Nothing seems to be weeping or leaking too much. Oil is leaking out of my timing cover area though. I can't imagine that supposed to happen.

Air box is off all the way down to the boot and everything appears to be seated correctly. everything is snug. Clamp seems tight. Most of the intake racket i hear when running the bike is the air sucking through when opening the throttle a bit. I'll investigate the boot further but i'm not sure how it could be seated incorrectly.. I'm going out now to run ecm spy once more.

i know i say this a lot but thanks so much for your help guys... sometimes i get ready to throw my hands up and dump the buell for something without these issues. I'm really hoping to work through them and get this thing in tip top condition though!

Oil is leaking out of my timing cover area though. I can't imagine that supposed to happen.

That would indicate your gasket is worn down. From R&R of the timing cover. This will allow any kind of precipitation/seepage inside and out. The rear pcv will come out without rotating I believe. The front might have to have the engine rotated I'm sure.

The idle issue would be spark plugs, spark plug wires, air seepage, IAT or IAC sensor. Start with the simple and work up to the advanced.

I don't think the idle is due to plugs or wires it seems to happen mostly when the engine is hot! Are the IAT and IAC easy to get to? Or am I going to be ripping this whole thing down? is there any easy way to diagnose these issues? I don't have tons of time but I really have not been happy with any of the dealerships work... plus their rate is sickening.

Also, what in the world is this thing? The cap on it is all cracked and dry rotted
