I haven't opened the engine yet but I know it's not going to be pretty. The Spark plug tip is crushed so I'm honestly not expecting anything nice. Is it worth the time and effort to tear the engine apart to sell a working bike or better off parting it? Not sure what everything on it would get but I plan on selling it either way.

If you're going to sell either way, I'd almost part it out - but that is a lot of work.

Price out the cost of a good rebuild and the cost of a replacement, then figure out if selling a running bike or parting it out will be worth your money/effort.

I'd be doing the work myself so parts only. Running bike may get me $1200 or so in this market. Not sure what parting out gets but most likely would result in less work.

If you're wrenching on it anyways might as well crack it open and have a look. If your case isn't smashed and you have oil pouring out of it you might not be that bad off. May not be so bad. Get part numbers then check out prices at lshd1.com and see where you stand. Once you pull the head you should know how bad it is. May just be a carbon build up that hit the plug.

I was wondering that. I read a few things like that. Would carbon build up be a sudden thing or would I hear noise leading up to it for a bit? I heard noise for maybe 30-40 miles before it finally gave up the ghost.

What would you sell the engine core for when you get that far? I'm looking for an engine with a junk top end to build up and have some fun with!

I figure I'll give it a quick crack at it next weekend to see if it was just some carbon build up but if it's still toast then I'll pretty much be entertaining offers.
