Engine Rotation - Can't Purge Fuel Line

I needed to do an engine rotation to replace the rocker cover gaskets. Bike does run and it's a 07 XB9R. In the service manual, it says to unplug the fuel pump and then start the bike and run it dry to purge the line before unplugging it. Well if I unplug the fuel pump. the bike gives me only a hi beam indicator when I turn the key on and the run switch on run. the hi beam or pass switch works and turns on the hi beam and the light goes out. If I plug the pump back in, whether I turn the bike off first or just leave it on, it goes back to normal, primes and will start. If I start the bike and then unplug the fuel pump, the bike stalls instantly and it does the hi beam thing again. So in the end, I just unplugged it but broke the 2 lock tabs from the pressure and am awaiting a new fuel line. The only thing I can think of is the fan fuse hasn't been replaced yet from it blowing but don't have one to use right now as I was going to go get one after the bike was put back together. The bike ran fine before I went to do the repair and was charging at ~14 volts(Seen the VR thread with the same issue). Could the Fan fuse be my issue or is there a problem with something I never noticed?

I know, Its just troubling to me that the purge procedure doesn't work. Plus it broke the 2 little lock tabs because I had to squeeze the life out of the connector to get it off with the pressure in it.

given your situation.....and i know it's "post-haste"....but i would have simply left as-is, removed drain plug and completely drained tank, then started till it ran out of fuel. would have accomplished the same thing and removed the line pressure which is the reason your connector tangs broke.

Gas tank was full when I bought it and I don't have a gas can. I'm surprised no one has said anything on the manual procedure yet. I would have expected someone to confirm whether it works for them or not by now.

Not sure what it is that you want to know... I've pulled a lot of Buell motors with full tanks and have not broken a fuel line clip.....
I don't drain the tanks or do the whole depressurization thing. I just use a small standard screwdriver push in the red tab and pull and about a tablespoon of gas comes out.
Then when I put it back together I only have to prime the fuel pump about 5-6 times then fire the motor.

I got the end with the 2 small black tabs you got to pinch. It's different then the one your talking about. The line came off but the tabs snapped off when it released. Very thin where the tabs connect to the connector.
