witnessed first hand how packages are handled once they arrive at a collection/distribution point for one of the majors in delivery services out there...let's just call it "Barney" you'll figure it out by the color reference...anyway, as I was standing by for a pilot just off to the side of the aircraft, "Barney" employees began to open compartments on the belly pod and started removing packages of various sizes along with the standard shipping envelopes packed in clear plastic bags. Let's go back to the removing part, as each one of the "Barney" employees had a said package or plastic bag, they tossed it, yes, tossed it without regard to what it was into a pile a few feet away. And yet another employee would glance at the label of each package, semi stack 'em and toss those closer to a large bin, which get loaded into larger aircraft. this goes on the entire time, until the aircraft is empty, then continues to the larger bins. bend over to pick up a package, why when it can be flipped and kicked around to either the conveyor belt or bin with your foot...so ever wonder why your packages are dinged up, dirty, crushed and or torn, the before mentioned is why. some of those "Barney" employees should try out for professional sports having arms like that :D

just took me off guard seeing how things were handled, thought I'd share and maybe you'll think about buying insurance for your next package being shipped by "Barney"

Stuff like that pisses me off. The way I was raised I was taught "if your going to do something take the time to do it right", "treat other peoples belongings with equal or more respect than your own", words to live by lol. But the barneys doing that just seems messed up to me. People just simply don't give a **** if it's not their stuff. If you really want to be surprised go work nights at taco bell. HA!

I work for a shipping supply company, lets just say we get a lot of returns due to damage. Part our fault for improper shipping and handling, but mostly courier damage. You would be shocked how damaged things get in transit. We have shipped out product on 48" by 96" skids and litterally gotten nothing more than a broken piece the size of a shoe box returned. And not even on a skid of any sort. No clue as to were the missing pieces ever went. Shipping hubs are black holes i guess.

I worked for "Barney" as a package handler and they required (in writing) EACH employee to handle (or move) 900 pieces per HOUR. Myself and one other guy had 4 hours each morning to unload 2 and a half, 53'-foot trailers and get the packages on the conveyors to the sorters. There were very few mornings that we were ahead of schedule, so I don't blame the guy chucking the boxes, it's not his fault, he's just trying to keep his job and feed his family by following the requirements set by the company.

Then again, I knew a postal carrier/sorter some years back and he used to tell me that putting "fragile" on a package was just inviting trouble.

I'm in distribution and part of my territory receives packages via UPS and I just wait for the daily phone calls from customers who receive boxes the have been kicked in and all contents are completely destroyed. It's truly unbelievable the pure disregard for the package and the contents. The very reason these companies exist, they don't seem to care.

USPS FTW :) They are much better, from my experience. I buy/sell a lot of stuff and for the past 3-4 years have used usps exclusively and have not had one issue. And they are cheaper.

I ship things all over the world. The best is when you get a snowboard back your shipped out to russia three years ago. I never got a call saying the customer never received the the board, but three years later, and a massive amount of stamps, and water stains on an old cardboard box got returned by ups and lo' and behold.

I guess this is russia, and ups doesnt handle everything... but a three year return turn around....

I ordered tail plastics for a project I was doing. I completely forgot I bought it. A year and a half later I got a letter at my work saying I had a package I needed to pick up. I couldn't believe that it was in one piece when I got it but I had sold the bike I built lol it ended up having a hands made tail lol
