Exhaust install issue??

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

I dont think it is bent anymore, the front strap is almost against the chin fairing mount, which means the header cant go back any farther. I am puzzled maybe someone else will chime in that had the same problem.

How about a pic of your front motor isolator?

Dont think the isolator would cause that. The pully is bolted to the motor along with all the exhaust. so If the isolator was bad all it would do is rotate the entire assy together.

You said it apeared as it the previous owner may have had a diff exhaust on the bike before. If he had a Jardine that would reqire removal of the rear mount. If installed backwards it would shift the tail of the muffler to the right causing interfearance.........

Wouldnt it?[confused]

No need to take off the idler pulley. To check the rear mount you will have to pull the muffler back off. When looking at it ..... It should appear like it sets the muffler to the left side of the bike slightly. If you can get a pic ( can be done with the muffler on if your good). It will help.

For the straps...... Just feed them over the top of the muffler so the nut is on top of the bracket. You will be able to access the nuts by removing the pulley cover and using a deep socket and long extension. I myself use a 1/4 drive ratchet with a 10in extension.

Well my bike is an 06' but my pipe does not have a metal tag on it. If there was a change in the 06 model tension arms that would explain it.The race pipe came off a 03 xb9s.

Hopefully I will figure this out today.

Thanks for the info this forum is really cool and a great resource of knowledge I could not believe how fast responses were coming in last nite.

Whatever you do, do not cut that pipe. I had to play around with my Drummer SS when I was mounting it. I suggest let all hangers and header clamp lose. Move pipe into position, snug rear band clamps and then front band clamp then tighten, ensure it clears. I always tighten the header clamp last, you may have done it like this already. Just a suggestion!

Yes I have tried every which way and the pipe is just short and will hit the tip of the pipe so the only fix I see is bend the outer tip metal in to have clearance. It will most likely chip the black paint on the tip as it is chiped already Came that way do to poor packing when shipped no big deal I can respray the tips black after.

Dawgwalker, here is a pic of mine for reference('08 xb9sx). i have about 1/8" clearence between the pulley and the exhaust tip. mine fits on with no prob. your pipe has to be an early model, imho. see where it's hitting and knock a little dent in the outlet, no one will ever know.

That is what I am doing. I have a local muffler shop that I am going to bring the exhaust to and have him bend it in at the point where it is hitting and he said he can still flare the tip so we will see I will post pics later when I re install it.

Thanks again everyone who put there 2 cents in on this issue...

Here is the picture of the pipe installed..I am getting the race ecm tomorrow along with the K&N filter. The bike runs OK right now but to tell you the truth it ran better with the simple mod to the cable on the actuator with zip ties holding the valve open on the stock pipe the bike ran awesome more snap and torque. But the race pipe sounds better so I will see after I get the race ecm and the KN filter what the verdict will be..
