It might be a stupid question (I have lots of those), but on my way to work a guy on a Lighting turned left in front of me and it wasn't until he turned that I noticed it was a Buell. He got on it pretty good and I never heard it.

Granted, I was sitting in my truck (F350 diesel). But my bike with the stainless exhaust can sounds like a big twin and you can hear it from 2 blocks away. Is the stock exhaust that much quieter? Is it a difference between a 900 vs. 1200?

Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of my bike (my neighbors don't), but I wasn't able to hear that bike from maybe 20 feet away.

I've still got the stock muffler on my 12R and its very stealthy. I'd like to get an aftermarket pipe but I do enjoy bieng able to ride hard and not attract much attention...

Well ****, I'll have to check it out at the shop, then. I might need to swap mine out. I love the sound, but as the days get hotter, I leave home earlier. I might need to swap it out as to not piss the neighbors off too bad (I've only been there 3 months).

The stock pipe is the quietest, but has great torque specs still. You should check out Americansportbike.com, they have an exhaust shootout that you can download and compare.

Thanks, Dave. I'll check that out today.

<edit> Wow, that was perfect. I love the look and sound of the Latus, maybe I can find one somewhere.

That's always been my fav as well. Only thing is not only have they discontinued them, but the Edelbrock muffler it was modified from is also discontinued. You can mod current Edel mufflers, but an authentic Latus pipe is VERY rare to find. [sad]

I actually love the race can that's on my bike now. But after I drug it on the freeway (see my other thread on that one) it has a gnarly flat spot in it. Plus I noticed when I remounted it there is a fairly large dent in the bottom that keeps the strap from being tight in the back. I used a strip of wood as a wedge so it won't (I hope) fall off now. My front strap should be in today I hope.

I doubt I will spring for a new can unless I can get my chopper frame high enough to clear it. I would love to run an EPA stock can on the chopper if I could.
