Fan Fuse keeps blowing

Yep, those darn fuses! well it looks like you may need to test the fan independently of the bikes wiring and see if it blows the fuse then. Make sure to use a fuse link(10) if you test it seperately. Most likely it will come on the high speed only. If it has oil in it or makes a Squeeling noise it's possibly time for a replacement.
But make sure to test it throughly while [on] the bike. Trace the wires down so as to check for a rubbed wire and it is arking to a Ground or Engine area causing the Fuse to blow.
If you find the Wiring is good then ,Most Likely the Low Speed is shorted !
Always use the same SIZE Fuse nothing larger than ReQuired. Hope this gets you in the right direction. IF you Need a Fan American Sportbike .com OR Buellster- may have what you need. Hope it is an easy fix.*Jimi

Thanks Jim... but I really have no idea how to do that. Not that savvy with electronics. I am creeping up on 10k and was thinking about taking it in to have a full tune/service. Would you recommend that? Should I make sure they look at anything specific?

Some body just went through this very recently... they tested it off the bike, and the fan worked fine, but it ended up being the fan anyway.

Now im not saying you definitely need a fan, but keep it in mind if you come up with no other faults.

Hey Guy The only thing you may need to have done is the Testing of the Fan, Possibly may need to be Replaced if not a wire or something, the Dealer should have a Good Tech., that can help you with that. If you need plugs and Oil Change and other Maintenance FIX the Fan First!. Make sure to do your regular maintenance and Insist on a Good oil like AmsOil 20/50 it will work in the Transmission and the Engine if at the Dealer you will be able to Get Screaming Eagle 20/50 and as long as it is changed around Every 3'000/miles you should be fine.Good Luck. *Jimi

If its an XB9 or XB12, and the fan has oil on it (like jimijeans mentioned it might), it's most likely a rockerbox gasket leaking, the oil gets on your fan and causes failure. There's no good way to repair the fan. I recommend replacement with new.

I'm speaking from experience, that's what happened to me with my Uly.

So.. if thats the case I recommend fixing both problems. A rockerbox gasket leak worsens very quickly and makes your bike filthy.

Hey Guys -

Thanks for the input. Greatly appreciated. I ordered a rockerbox gasket today but they could not find the fan in their books. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Try American Sport bike.com . If you can get the part Number you may be able to get the Fan from Lakeshore Harley Davidson Buell. OR lshd.com I Think buying a [New Fan] is your best bet.
Have Year and the Model of bike you have ready for the Counter Personel so you can get the Part coming. The Dealers SOME are Friendly and [some] are WELL NOT Buell friendly or maybe just inexperienced in the Buells area .
Get us the Year and Exact Model of your bike and someone here on the Forum will be able to help you. American Sportbike .com is a Buellers Real Parts House . for a used part Buellister is a good used parts dealer. But Electrical parts get new if at all possible. Good Luck. *Jimi

Yep Hart/81 that is the Fan Needed from American Sportbike just take your time and it will take a little work but once you are done you will have the Satisfaction of the job well done and saved some money as well. Check your work as you go and you will be fine. Check the Wiring also as you go rewrap if needed after inspection.
On the Rocker Cover Gaskets when installing the New ones hopefully the Black ones will be the Newer Gaskets for replacement. The Red ones just SUCK!
The Red Geskets can be used but need some extra Attention. More on that later if needed.
Also check out the Exhaust Studs if they are really rusty replace them in the [rear] and the Exhaust Gasket.
Do Not put any Sealant on them(Studs) due to the Inner Threads on the Heads will have Residue still in there from Factory installation, that way when the Studs get old Hopefully the Studs will not Sieze in there and be easy to remove. and so on.
If you have A Proper Threader to run in the Heads Studs for cleaning out the Female Threads SPRAY some Carb Cleaner or something first inside to help Clean out!
For the New Exhaust Studs new installation then use a Very Small [Drop] of Medium Loctite on the Middle of the Studs ONLY and just snug the studs good and go from there.
When Tightening down the Rocker Bolts go around evenly several times getting tighter till done. Have Fun learning your Ride. Take your time good Luck. *Jimi
