Just became a member of the XB family. Picked up a 03' XB9R that was in pretty good shape(7/10). Here's the problem. Its throwing code 37(fan fault confirmed with ecmspy )but the fan works....[confused] What I mean by that is that I think it's running while Im riding but Im sure it turns on when the bike is cut off after a long ride(turns on high speed for awhile then cycles to low speed). Was able to put my probe on the plug for the fan, one side sits at 13 volts the other side does switch ground. Thoughts???

56 Cam sync failure

are you sure its code 37

It is possible that the fan is drawing too much voltage OR Amps/ when trying to come on to the run/cooling cycle from Temperature and will cause the cel light(yellow) to come on .
The ECM knows this and from the preset programing in the ECM it will set off the code or cel light you are seeing on your guage cluster. The Fan should have 13/volts to it and the Sender will tell it to come on at temperature.
NOW if the Voltage is Too much(amps draw) when it starts to come on the cool the Engine then your Ecm has the programing to set a code to let you know to replace or repair the problem. You can always remove the Fan and bench test it.
Hang on to it cause the High Speed can cause it to come out of your hands so use safety by Anchoring properly to do the testing .I have a way to bench test the Fan manually with a properly wired pig tail I just un plug the fan and plug my adapter into the Fans plug and bench test still on the bike!
You can also do an Amps draw test while on the bike if you have an amp probe but most likely from your posting here previously and the Code you said you may need a Fan OR also check the wiring and fuse to your problem area.
Always recheck your work just to be sure, before you buy a product. Post up with your findings when you can. good luck. *Jimi

ok update
more problems

replaced the fan, benched tested the new one first, put it in, cleared the light......and came back on after 10 minutes. But I can hear the fan running while I'm in traffic as well as the cycle after I shut it down after a ride.

Speedo stopped working, Tach worked fine as well as idoit lights. Still did the self test when the ignition is cut on so from what I read everyone replaced the speed sensor.........nothing still telling speed by traffic.

And on a un related not, random leak from the large bolt/nut at the bottom of the primary case. Will get a pic up later, any ideas what could be causing this.

Any help would be great. Even better if you DMV PG county NOVA local. I always provide beer.:D[up]
