i was wanting to see how long you can ride on a xb12s before you are miserable. whats the farthest you have ridden in one day?

huh? I'm not sure of the exact mileage but a little over 500 in a day on my XB12R. Had my touring seat on. I was ok with it. The seat only helps your butt and a tiny bit more leg room (I'm 6'2").

thats a good bit of miles to put on a firebolt in one day. i want to get a lightning to ride around town and occasionaly take some long weekend rides but i want to be able to do it without being miserable.

420 in one day, but 2 different bikes. XT half and SS half. No issues on either bike, stock seats.
Usually I can ride it until empty before I need a break.

I think the best lightning for any long ride is the XB12Ss. I find the seat good on mine. The furthest I have gone in one day so far is 300KM and had no issues. I think I may get the 2 inch drop pegs in the future to get a bit more leg room.

300 miles. only stopped once to get gas, and barley made it home before i needed gas again. This was my first time on a Buell too lol. drove it from somewhere in upper PA to Baltimore.

It kinda sucked, but then again any bike ive ever had would suck riding 300 miles non stop.

Phoenix to Vegas and Back in 9 hours and rain/thunderstorms. Labor Day Monday 2003. Not a fun ride, but had to get Corporation Docs to then for next business day, and work in Phoenix on Tuesday. sorry that was on an S3.

320 miles last Saturday. Took me 8 hours. Just stopped for gas and kept going. All slow curvy mountain roads on the 33 north of Ojai CA. Very beautiful roads up there. Lots of fun.

To stay comfortable on a long ride you need to move around on the bike every now and then. Change your seating position by arching your back. After a while try hunching over like you're doing ab crunches. Then try sitting back in the seat and leaning forward like you're on a Firebolt. On the corners, try moving to the left and right side of the seat. You can move your feet on the pegs a little bit too.

If you just sit in one position the whole time, it will be torture and you'll have to stop. Move around and you can keep going all day.

First I have to say, I love my Buell. I rode 200 miles on my old bandit, had to stop every chance I could to get feeling back in to my ass. Now, with my lightning, if I didn't need gas, I'm sure I could go for 300 or 400 miles. Now, I have a feeling if I had a cruise control, I could go for days.

dave_xb12r is right, he always points out that guys who ride R1 and GSXR always complain how much of a workout that 100 mile ride was. Me? I ride a 120 miles to Monterey to meet up with dave, gas up, go ride another 80-100, then ride home. I am not sore, tired, or anything.

Now, I have ridden dave_xb12r and spymac's firebolt, I don't think I could last 100 miles. The seat is way too hard and my riding position is way too cramped, mainly because the firebolt feels like a toy under my 6'5" fatass.

Now I have the -7 crossroads bars on my lightning, so I'm not in the 'proper motoring' riding position, but I'm not laying on my airbox either. I have long arms so I can sit up just as easily as riding aggressive.

Being comfortable is not just having a good seat, but having an overall good fit on your bike too...

kajer is right, having a bike that fits you is what makes comfort. I think my stock shaved seat is great, and the bars are perfect. When I said my trip was no fun, it was the heat and my sweaty ass that made it miserable. I wish I had anti monkey butt powder. I do 150 mile rides non stop all the time and it doesn't phase me at all.

okay, dave_xb12r has a point, If my butt starts sweating, I can't sit still and it becomes very hard to want to keep riding.

i have a day a month or so that a couple of mates go for a ride.We cover around 500 to 600 kms in a day and i have felt really comfortable doing this on my XB12Ss. Kinda helps a bit that one is a smoker and he likes to lead and keeps good pace and road sence but stops 4 or 5 times. That doesn't phase me though[up]

On my Buell, the most in one day was about 350. With gel padded bicycle shorts, very comfortable on my Ss. That was before I got the TT seat.
Longest on any bike was from Albuquerque to OKC. 550 miles on a Kawasaki 440LTD. Only got 40MPG on that leg of the trip back to MA after getting out of the USAF. 4.5 days total. My right cheek was numb for 3 weeks.

I've done 850 in two days on my xb12r with a stock seat. As long as I was on the curves it was fine but the last three hours weren't and was hell. I definately agree with kajer and fitting your bike, I'm just under 5'7" and fit the firebolt great. Stretching is huge too, before and after.
