1. You dont know what happen in the situation, you werent there. Our warden and Sheriff even made a comment that based on what they could see in the video tape that my report acurately depicted what happen. My supervisor involved in the situation was demoted and a drastic pay cut. He later quit because of this and is driving a truck, long haul, and is away from his family for weeks/months on end. I didnt break a single law, there was no law that I broke to charge me with. I was simply a bystander in the situation as I was about 15 feet away (off camera) when it happened. When I say I was put on probation I don't mean criminal probation where someone like yourself would do. I was put on work probation, as in no raises and no advancement opportunity for me for 6 months. This was back in November and have had no problems since then.

2. Someone in handcuffs is still a dangerous person. Handcuffs are not the ultimate equalizer, they are still dangerous. I ride a streetbike, does that automatically make me unfair, uncivil and a power hunrgry adrenaline junky? I guess the same could be the same could be said for you.

3. You should really stop and take a look at yourselves.

Thank you for risking your life for us blove. I agree. Notice how we don't know a single good thing that the officer in the video did? He could have risked his life to save a family from a deranged family member a few hours before this incident and he might have still been on the edge from it. He still acted wrong, but we know nothing about the situation or the good things he has done.
Thank you Dogwood.

dogwood really? i'm not even going to answer your off canter question. there is this old saying "a peace officer is the first person you want to see when your house is being robbed and the last person you want to see in your rear view mirror"
i myself try to stay as far away as i can from them.

so you the cop in the video because thats the issue here and what im talking about.in the state of texas it is a crime to to watch a crime in progress and do nothing

im sure he has done a lot of good.alot of people sitting in prision may have done good deeds also but they made a mistake and had to pay for it.so this officer should also.unless you think they should be above the law and free to do what they want.

I agree with you anrkizm. No one is above the law, I'm trying to state that all we have is a short out of focus no sound clip to pass judgement on someone. If he truely did something wrong then he should pay for his crimes regardless of who you are. A lot of the guys I deal with on a daily basis are good people and I can carry on a conversation with them. But they like you said made a mistake, and/or where at the wrong place at the wrong time. But they must do their civil duty.

No its not! Where the hell did you hear that from? The only people that have a duty to act while a crime is being committed is an officer. If I were to go into a gas station and it gets robbed while I am there then I have a duty to act, whether on duty or not. You on the other hand (not being an officer) wont face criminal charges by simply being there while someone else committed a crime.

It seems to me that this situation/conversation could go on forever. Whats the old saying? "Agree to disagree"

§ 38.171. FAILURE TO REPORT FELONY. (a) A person commits
an offense if the person:
(1) observes the commission of a felony under
circumstances in which a reasonable person would believe that an
offense had been committed in which serious bodily injury or death
may have resulted; and
(2) fails to immediately report the commission of the
offense to a peace officer or law enforcement agency under
circumstances in which:
(A) a reasonable person would believe that the
commission of the offense had not been reported; and
(B) the person could immediately report the
commission of the offense without placing himself or herself in
danger of suffering serious bodily injury or death.
(b) An offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor.

Added by Acts 2003, 78th Leg., ch. 1009, § 2, eff. Sept. 1, 2003. maybe they leave this one out in your trainning to cover your *****

woo,woo pump your brake no one said anything about race. i see this train has flown off the tracks!!!
squid out

It's just an example ! You used it as an example for cops , so what's the difference ?

this is turnning into a hate cops thread.for one they have my respect for doing a hard job that i dont have the temperment to do [up] to you imo going by the video and the article this cop was in the wrong and should have been punished in court like any one that made a mistake and commited a crime just like the drunk he slammed there should be no double standard.

Hey anrkizm, read the first line. It says "duty to report" not "duty to act." The situation I mentioned about being in the gas station while it was being robbed. If I'm in the station during the robbery I have a duty to act right then and there, to do what I can to stop that individual. And yes I am armed while out by myself in civilian clothes, I do carry a concealed handgun license in the state of Texas. I do this to protect my family and myself while out as I do run into previous inmates that do remember me but I may not necessarily remember them. You on the other hand have a duty to report. You have a duty to report to these "dirty cops" what you saw. You dont have to get involved in the situation like I do.

Thats basically what I've been trying to say all along. We all know that the press twists things and never reports the full story. Unfortunately all we have is this article and the clip to go on. So we are all in a sense passing judgement before we know the full story. If he truely is in the wrong then yes he should face the judge just like anyone else.

reporting is acting picking up a phone walking to get a senior officer or calling 911 is an act.but thats another argument.his senior officers said if the time limit hadnt run out to punish him that he would have bee fired and maybe more thats proof enough for me.as far as you go blove you have my respect as an officer until something proves you shouldnt.you have a dangerous thankless job most of the time.[up]to you.this thread to me wasnt about all L/E just the one in the video.

This thread is entertaining as hell. Blove are you strictly a corrections officer or are you a police officer who works both? Just curious.

quite frankly if i got my head smashed into a wall while i am in handcuffs i would be suing the **** out of them also, theres other ways to restrain someone whos already restrained. complete abuse of power there
