I have a master cylinder from an 05/06 zx6r that I'd like to put on my 'bolt. I know of of you guys put one on their lightning with just a couple of issues. Does anyone have one on their firebolt? I went out and did a quick test fit holding it on the bar and it was a very close fit. Just checking to see if someone else has done it so I'll know if I have to modify anything to get it to fit. I know I'll have to find some place to put the reservoir, which shouldn't be too much of a problem. The lines should be good since the clipons are lower than the bars on the lightning.

Also what's the best procedure to go about installing it? I've never installed/bled a dry master before...only bled a full one. I'm guessing I'll have to bleed the fluid through the master, then through the lines? Should I unhook the lines from the old master with fluid in them so they'll be easier to bleed after I hook them to the new one?

Hey, I am the one with this setup on the lightning.

1. you will probably still need a longer brake line because the mount on the XZ6R master is angled differently than the buell MC and that is what causes the need for a longer line. I was lucky because I put on some Crossroads bars which lowered my bars about 2"-3" giving me some extra slack to work with, but you will be keeping the same bars so I think you will be SOL in that respect. Maybe you could buy a lightning brake line, I think it is a little longer.

2. as for the reservoir cup I just took the stock bracket for it and bent it strait and drilled a hole in the bottom. I then took the bar clamp and made a notch in it the same size as the bracket. then when you clamp the the MC to the bars you slide the bracket into the notch you made in the clamp and place the bolt through the hole you put in the bottom of the bracket, then tighten up the bolts on the clamp and the bracket will be firmly wedged in between the clamp and the MC.

3. As for bleeding the brakes I bled most of the air out from the bleeder on the caliper and then finished with the bleeder on the MC.

Hope that helps

Do the lightnings and firebolts have different length brake lines...there's already a pretty good bit of slack in this line, it appears that it will fit on the zx6r m/c. Haven't tried it yet.

I don't have the stock reservoir bracket but I was planning on doing what you mentioned with something homemade.

The m/c I have is dry so I'm going to have to bench bleed it from what I gather.

Could you do me a favor though and take a picture of where your brake lever contacts your lever? I don't know how far the m/c piston extends out of the caliper but there's a pretty big gap between my lever and the piston right now. I had to buy a lever from ebay since the m/c didn't come with one and I'm wondering if I got the right one.

With this setup the MC and the lever are linked together by a plunger. Do you have this part?

I messaged the guy I bought it from and he said he'll look for it.

If he doesn't find it I can't buy it separately and the piston assembly is 43$ so I guess I'll just have to buy another m/c >.<

Also macro mode is your friend :]

Well if you goon ebay right now there are some GSXR MC's for sail. One is going for $21 as of now and comes with everything you need and another has a buy it now price off $100 but comes with a Pazzo lever. Just type in GSXR front master. the 06-07 GSXR master is the same as the 05-06 ZX6R master.

How do the brakes feel with these master cylinders? Are these paired to ZTL or ZTL2?
ac

I have the ZTL caliper and it helps out tremendously. I like to hit the mountains and was never really happy with how hard I had to pull the lever to get the the front brake to work. Now that I have upgraded the MC my brakes require much less lever pull and provide much better feedback than the stock setup.

So the line is just a little bit too short. I already bled the fluid out of the stock m/c and lines...now I can't get any pressure in it and the m/c doesn't have a bleeder on it (or I'm blind). Maybe I'm doing it wrong? o_O

nitto - where did you get the line for your setup and how long is it?

Guess I need a lightning line then...

I'm talking about the stock m/c, I couldn't get the new one to fit so I'm having to put the old one back on and I can't get any pressure in the system :/

Why dont you just reroute to stock line to the outside of the forks until you can get the replacement line? It should buy you some extra length.

Yea I thought of that, but I gota get a torx socket or allen then..my screwdriver won't reach it :/.

Am I bleeding them right though? I'm pumping up the lever quite a bit, then holding it at the bar, opening the bleeder to let the fluid out, closing the bleeder, then pumping the lever again and repeating. That's how I was always told to bleed brakes...but they're just not building up any pressure. Am I going to have to get a vacuum bleeder?

Put a clear tube on the end of the bleeder, it helps you see the air that is coming out and prevents air from being sucked in. Also you should open the bleeder just after the start of the lever pull and close it just before the lever pull is complete.

Note: you should have a t27 wrench in your buell tool bag.

Yea I've got the hose on the end of the bleeder, and a couple of small bubbles will come out every once in a while but it's mostly fluid. I've ran two full reservoirs down, which took about an hour, and still no pressure.

[confused] thats allot of time spent for results like that. I had the same problems with the Kawasaki MC until I found that there was some air trapped in the top bleeder on the MC. Opened the bleeder and and let the air out and presto I had pressure. I dont know what you can do with the stock setup cuz there is not a bleeder on the MC.

If I was you I would reroute the line and put on the ZX MC.

Yeah I'm going to pick up a tool I can get that bolt out with tomorrow and try that...I'm pretty frustrated.

If that doesn't extend the line enough I guess i'll have to try a vacuum bleeder.
