Well, today I had another spill on my bike, not as bad as the first time however, just bent the handle bar a bit this time and the throttle is sticking like crazy, so I guess when I take the time to fix that i'll be testing the cables for shorts.

What would be the best way to test the cable? unplug the harness from the battery? Or leave the harness connected to the battery use just one lead on the end of the connection?

Um...It really depends. Have you studied the wiring diagrams? I fear the answer is 'No' based upon your questions...

No, I don't have the service manual for my bike, I downloaded the 2005 one, but I have a 2008 XBR. So I don't know if the wiring diagrams are different.

2005s and 2008s are not the same. Use the manual as a guide to do research but do not use it for trouble shooting major issues. The 2008 and up Buells have different electrical systems, oiling systems, intake sensors and crank than the 2007 and older models. I've probably left a few things out but I'm sure you get the point.

Not to get off on a tangent, but have you figured out what is causing this (today I had another spill on my bike)?

and the throttle is sticking like crazy so I guess when I take the time to fix that

Uh, I would get right on that one before riding again or you WILL BE HAVING ANOTHER ONE.

I wasn't sure about the entire electrical system - thanks chicknstripn. I'm sure the wiring for the turn signals didn't change.

I hit a mix of oil and antifreeze on the road while I was braking towards a stop light. I rode it back to where I park it and I have been driving since then.

I did find a 2009 manual online guess this be better to use as a reference compared to the 2005 manual since it is closer to being the same.
