I hate to admit it but I had my first crash about an hour ago on my Bolt 12. A combination of cold Dunlops, loose gravel, and speed got me in a turn doing about 50. Thank God I was wearing full gear because instead of riding away with a sprained thumb and bruised hip, I would have had a head injury and torn up shoulders.

Im pissed that I broke the steering head, turn signals, nose fairing, and shift lever but the frame pucks saved the bike from frame damage. I immediately rode in 2nd gear to the bike shop (1 mile away) where it will sit until repairs are done.

Do you guys have recommendations for what to look out for in these repair situations?

WEAR YOUR GEAR EVERY TIME YOU RIDE!

Oh yea, I just ruined a week old HJC F15.

I almost bought one of them but I went with the flat black bell apex. I'm very happy with it but I wonder how the safety compares.

Check out Buellsterparts.com for good prices on stuff. Sorry to hear you went down, but great to see you're OK. :D[up]

I'm saving up for a suit. I bought the Alpinestars SMX 2 armor and it's going to be good for short trips on post and stuff. but i think i want full leathers to go for long trips.

I've bought 2 jackets and to pairs of pants on craigslist. I've paid a total of $380 for all of that.

I was wearing:

Fieldsheer Corsair Jacket
Fieldsheer Street Pants (over Army ACU pants)
Army combat boots
Race gloves with armored knuckles (full length)
HJC F15 Helmet

I will take pictures as soon as I go back to the bike shop but wanted to get back from lunch before the chief of staff knew what happened.

In the future, I will purchase the Danaise armored shorts b/c my hip hurts like hell now that the adrenaline has worn off. If I wouldnt have landed in the dirt I could have easily fractured my pelvis from impact.

I highly recommend A* track pants. They have armor everywhere, and the pucks help you slide in a crash. Those combined with A* SMX plus boots, I didn't feel a thing.

yea i have the SMX shoes, but i've been checking out the full boot. when i flipped over the bars i knocked my shin real good. nothing broke but i still have a golf ball over 2 weeks later. i'm an alpinestars fan :0 ) I get very brand loyal.

well ive got turn signals left side air and oil scoope for sail along with foot pegs both rider and passenger and heel guards for sale. And the thing to look for is everything new on a buell is hi dollar.

So are most crashes like yours going to total a bike or just repaired. Was thinking about pucks but if not having them will get the bike totaled out I would rather that than have to keep a prior wrecked bike. [smirk]

Glad your ok. Were you wearing a leather jacket or textile? How did it hold up?

I know how a sprained thumb feels. My crash about a month ago left me with a sprained thumb and ankle. Thumb and ankle still haven't healed fully =\

Screamineagle,
The problem with going through insurance are the rate hikes after its all said and done. A messed up frame means the bike is totaled. Frame pucks can be replaced in a few minutes and all is well.

Regarding my jacket, Fieldsheer makes a really cool textile material called Carboflex (jackets only) which are supposed to be 90% the strength of leather. After a good wash you won't even be able to tell I had a crash. All of the armor in at was put to the test and I didn't feel a thing in those locations. I highly recommend it.

So wrecking my Bolt and having my fiance pick me up from work isn't so bad but us totaling her car on the way home is too much to bear (I wasnt driving this time). To add insult to injury, we also hit and totaled one of my co-workers cars in the crash. I deserve the coldest beer possible and so do all of you guys for the luck that I'm having today. I posted some picks of the bike and totaled car in the member's picks area.

I couldn't make this stuff up if I wanted to.

C.- What did you do???? That's some bad Karma following you around! Will send lots of possitive energy your way bro. I hope that cold beer did find ya sometime this evening.;)
