Hey everyone, I'm looking to pick up my second bike tomorrow, an 03 Buell Firebolt in need of a clutch. Price is $3500 obo, it has 10K miles and looks to have been taken care of. I'm hoping it gets easier to find parts for this bike, can't seem to find a clutch online anywhere....

Sounds like a high price. I would try to talk them down.

My friend just picked up a clean 05 XB12R for $4600

My GF just got an 03 lightning for $3200 with no problems. So $3500 is way to high to also need work.

Hey Ryan, is it a xb9 or a xb12? Ot doesn't seem like a terrible price depending on where you are from. I wouldn't say its a steal, but may be fair if the clutch really is all that it needs.

Hey guys, it's an XB9. I've basically been getting my prices of Ebay and what they're selling for. I sent her an email about the price and haven't committed yet.

Also, it has an aftermarket exhaust with the dual tips (angled off away from tires), could that the Vance and Hines exhaust (sorry, no pics at this time)?

Most likely a Buell Race Pipe. Might ask them if they've got the Full Race Kit installed (Performance Air Filter, Race Exhaust, Race ECM).

Steven,
I'm buying it from a girl that is selling it because her brother died in Iraq, she doesn't really know anything about bikes. Is there any way I could verify this myself (air filter color, ECM stickers)?

ECM will have race use only written on it the air filter I'm not sure about the color but I would guess similar to a K&N filter.

Man I HATE to hear that about her brother or any for that matter.

Not All Race ECM's will say "For Race Use Only" on them, but the majority do. Pretty sure the race kit filters have always looked as pictured below. They will have that "high-flow", K&N-like material around them as opposed to the plain Fram-like paper filter.

Ahh, Ok, is the ECM located somewhere I could check easily, or do I have to take off fairings?

I'm almost certain, but not entirely, that the clutch basket is identical to the Sporty 1200 one, I know it was for the XB12R (the clutch shell, basket, plates, ect all have the same part numbers)
The XB9 might be closer to the 883, any dealer should be able to quickly reference that though and then I'm sure you'll have more luck finding a clutch from a sportster.
I put a clutch from a post-2000 sportster (don't recall exact year now) in my XB12R and it operates correctly.
I did have trouble getting a chain the right size (you might have one already though), the sportster ones have a different link count except for a few specific years, and I know the XB9R chain is shorter because the front rotor is smaller. I ended up just buying that from Hal's H-D here in Milwaukee.
