I started my '04 xb12r this morning to ride to work and the check engine light stayed on. It was cold (for Texas anyways), around 40 degrees so I took it around the block to see if warming it up would turn it off. That didn't help. It was running just fine and didn't feel any different at all. This is the first time the light has come on, so I'm not sure where to start. I tried to search on the forum but didn't come up with much, although I know there are threads out there that cover all this. Any help in getting this sorted out would be appreciated.

do you have an ecmspy cable?

you'll need to pull the codes and see what they are

I do have ecmspy and the cable. Is there a thread that covers doing that and what the codes mean?

Fairly easy. Piddle with it while it's not hooked up to your bike just to familiarize. Skim through the ECMSpy vers. 2 manual off of ECMSpy.com. It explains hooking up to the bike. Checking codes with ECMSpy is super simple and you can troubleshoot somewhat with it as well.

You can also use the manual method and jump the pins on the diag port.

Covered here.

Hopefully anrkizm95 will pop in with the FULL list of codes, soon.

Octo is talking about using the wire jumper method with nothing but a jumper wire - no computer or anything.

I didn't know that a battery could trigger the Check Engine Light. It has been cranking pretty slow too. Almost makes me hope that's what it is.

Well I plugged it in when I got off work and it threw the code 21 which is the interactive muffler control. I have a race map and Hawk exhaust but still have the servo hooked up anyways. This evening the check engine light wasn't on anymore so I'm just going to not worry about it. Thanks for the help. I would just disable it but I am not very good with ecmspy.

happened to me one time i pulled over called a mechanic friend n he said un hook battery and rehook. neverr did it again

If you decide to unhook it then get with American Sport bike and Get the Immunlator for the Interactive Exhaust. it's inexpensive and this way if a Charging issue pops up and so on you will not get caught off guard broke down somewhere.Good Luck.*jimi
