for what it's worth...anyone with a Uly that has suffered at the hands of the dreaded factory lean mapped ecm..do yourself a favor an spend an evening remapping it with the race map. my 07 Uly was surging to the point that i was thinking of selling it just to rid myself of the annoyance. tonite i did tps reset and had friend help me do the remap and install race map. OMG---what a difference this makes. like a new bike and NO MORE surging. highly recommended.

Thanks, i tried buellmods and the Downloads page was "404 not found" :(
I think I found them on another site, so probably ok. I'll keep checking buellmods too.

I need to do this to my 06, is it a hard thing to do?? I have ECM Spy and cable

i consider myself a great mechanic and average at best with computers. i found it very trying on my patience the first time i remapped an ecm and got my computer-guru neighbor to help walk me thru it. what you are doing is running your ecmspy program, getting the computer and bike to communicate with one another, working in "professional" mode, saving your EEPROM which is all your stored ecm info, and going from there. have someone walk you thru it if you don't feel comfortable on your own is my best advice.

yes. it is the very last step i do. motor should be warm, key and run switch on, zero out tps, click reset tps and confirm with yes on ecmspy, turn in tps screw until reading of 5.1 to 5.5 obtained. also i would advise to set AFV value to 100 when you are on the tps reset page in spy program.

Are the race ECM's and stock ECM's different. Meaning are there Maps for a race ECM work in a stock ECM? Thought i heard something was different?

ford: you're confusing nomenclature here. the ECM is the buell computer. it contains the EEPROM which is entire memory both factory loaded and stored learned info is my understanding. a map is the coded fuel and timing info loaded into ECM as part of the EEPROM. timing map controls ignition timing via firing the coil and fuel map controls injectors by telling them when to open and how long to stay open. you can remove your stock factory fuel and ignition maps from your ECM and load it with what is called race fuel and ignition maps. you'll need a computer, USB cable, driver, maps, and instructions to do it. tons of info on this site on how to do it.

I haven't done this yet, and was thinking of doing it this evening. My bike has a K&N, but original exhaust. Was your bike stock when you put on the race map?

Even with stock intake/exhaust the race map is a good fit. I ran the bike with stock intake/exhaust and the race map and it ran great. Then did the K&N and airbox delete and it ran so lean again that I had to get another airbox. I'm going to do the exhaust, then remove the airbox again and get it tuned on a dyno.

Lunaticfringe,

I tried to get this answered in a different post but had no luck. Is there any difference between a stock ECM and a "Race ECM"? To clarify, is the hardware different or the same? From what it looks like here, the box is the same only the programming is different? This is really confusing to me in my newness!

I bought my bike in July from the second owner. He was not a gear head at all and just bought the bike to ride it. The only thing he ever had to do was seasonal fluid changes (the original owner actually had the 1000 and 5000 mile services done at a HD/Buell dealer).

During the 1000 mile service on 5/31/07 the following were also added:
32822-01Y Buell performance plug (two) $13.50
29388-02YB Kit, A/C XB $55.20
32620-03Y Kit, ECM, XB12 $178.45
Labor, install ECM/AC Kit/S-Plugs $90.00

When I looked at the ECM in the bike it has part number Y0152.3A8 06265 on it. It does not have 32620-03Y or Race Only anywhere on it which leads me to believe the original owner took it out before selling the bike. It still has the stock exhaust on it and appears to be completely stock.

I guess where I am going is I am looking at saving up over winter for a different muffler (maybe drummer?). If and when I add it it looks like I will need a different setup with my ECM.

1) Does reprogramming my stock ECM make it the equivalent of a Race ECM?

2) Is there a physical difference between a stock and race ECM, or is it even possible to reprogram the stock one?

3) Am I better off paying the money for a new ECM through EBR already set up to work with a K&N filter and whichever exhaust I purchase. If I went with option number 3, from what I can tell it looks like I would just have to put in the filter, swap the exhaust, plug in the new ECM, get a TPS reset and enjoy the bike.

I come from the era of carbs, and while the convenience of modern fuel injection is wonderful, I find the whole ECM thing quite confusing.

From what it looks like here, the box is the same only the programming is different?

That's correct. If you flash the race maps to a "regular" ecm then you have the same thing as a race ecm.

You'll catch on, electronic fuel injection is actually VERY simple. Just have to get used to it, a little at a time. And I'm no expert, but can do what I need to do and have a good understanding of the way it all works.

OK, snrusnak thanks, I think I get it. Now I am wondering if my ECM got "reflashed" on 05/31/07 for the $178.45 and got different plugs and an air cleaner to richen everything up a bit. Either that or if a replacement was installed at that time, the original owner took it out.

I guess I have all winter to learn! Maybe all I have to do is buy the K&N filter along with the muffler and learn how to re-program the hardware that is already in there with ECM Spy. I'll admit, that seems a bit intimidating.
