I am starting to look for headers to replace the stock ones I have on my 04 XB12R and I came across Free Spirit headers. Apart from being really expensive, does anyone have any comments, good or bad about them? If anyone has a set, do they allow the use of a modified RSS & does the front header sticking out pose any problems? And most importantly, how do they work?

Thanks

You can still use the aftermarket Right side scoop designed for 02-07 models, but you may need to trim it slightly to clear the header.
Performance is excellent with these headers and the weight is a lot less than stock. Part of the reason for the price is that they are made from Inconel/stainless which is more expensive than mild steel or stainless steel. We used them for racing in 2003-2006 on our XB12 racers. They will match up to most aftermarket mufflers designed for 02-07 International models or 02-2010 US models.

Please be aware that these will be discontinued shortly once existing stocks are depleted (the headers for 08- models have already gone), so if you want them you need to move fast :)

Many thanks for the reply and information adrenalinmoto. Are there any dyno results available which show the HP & torque compared to stock?

cheers

Technically kindof sortof. Go look at the exhaust shootout on American sportbike. The micron gives a few HP more due to the hydroforrmed headers. They're larger diameter, and I think possibly equal length. Move more air = more power. So the free spirits are a little larger in diameter so you'll feel a little increase in power maybe. For those though a tune would be the most beneficial way to run them.

How fast is fast? I've been interested in a set of these as well
