Has anyone removed their front modules/display/lights?

I want to replace mine with some streetfighter lights that clamp to the forks and a small digital display, but when I ripped everything off this weekend I realized just how many wires I would have to conceal even just for the brakes, throttle, ignition, headlights...

Any ideas on how to strip down and clean up the front end?

I'll take a stab at thinking this through...you'll need to thoroughly study the wiring diagrams in the service manual and determine what (if any) wires can be removed or reused. You might even consider removal and dissection of the wiring harness.

1:
You'd need to replace/move the ignition key switch. I'd replace it w/ a water-proof toggle switch, and locate it in the opening under the seat.
2:
Either relocate the ignition and kill switches or rewire them. (solder/shrink tube where the connectors were)
3:
Delete the horn. You may be able to recycle the wiring for use in the turn signal circuit.
4:
Move the turn signal relay, and rewire the front signals.
5:
Delete the connectors for the brake and clutch switches. (solder/shrink tube)

Good luck...minimizing the wiring will be nearly impossible IMHO.

I like the idea of relocating the ignition to under the seat in that small opening! That would look awesome if you just reached below your butt and started it up there! Maybe for the signals you could get those bar end signals and run the wires through the handlebars and somehow hide where they come out by the handlebar clamp?

My guess is that you just need alot of extra wiring so you can relocate things under you seat or somewhere else! Good luck

i just put a lightning front end on my firebolt. the easiest way i could see to do it was to buy a wiring harness from a lightning. then your fuses, relays, and ecm are located in the back. went pretty smooth, just have to be patient.

Wow, thanks so much for the time and thoughts guys, I love this forum.

I am totally down to ditch the horn, i've already ditched the turn signals, i'm down to ditch the entire speedo/tach/guage consule and want to ditch both front modules.

Essentially, the only thing I want on the front of the bike is headlights.

I think that if i move the ignition switch and rewire it, then I'll only have the clutch, headlight, throttle and brake wires/lines worry about. That might be the key.

Any more ideas and I'd love to hear um!

I am deciding to do the same thing except i am replacing my front end with a mask.
Going through the process of trying to find lights to use behind the eyes (looking at the PIAA 1400 fog lights)and how i am going to fit the whole thing together. Waiting for the mask to arrive so i can work out how to fit it on.
Won't be doing this just now going to take a while to work out the whole layout.
Once you get started post some pics and i'll do the same once i know what i am doing.

sounds good... I took another look at it today and i think i am going to try and move the ignition. maybe just stash a toggle under the seat brackets somewhere and stash the ignition button somwhere else. I'm also thinking if i lose the ability to high beam i can get rid of that entire hunk on the left side.

i'm also thinking of trying to lose the airbox altogether. Maybe mounting a cone style coming right up out of the intake and having a flat "cover" fabricated to go around it. might look pretty sick with the filter sticking straight up out of the engine..

gonna take some time and planning but when i start i'll keep everyone posted.
