I tried to do the spacer relocation for the front turn signals but am having problems. When i moved the spacer to inside the wind screen I couldn't put the lights on because they were hitting the spacer. What am I doing wrong?

I just pushed on the light till it was in far enough to locate the lower bolt. If my lights end up pointing too far up, I'll pull the spacers out and grind them down far enough to give some adjustment.

Thanks Oct for the recommendation. I'm trying to do as many free mods as possible since money is tight right now. I really like the looks of the shorter turn signals on the front but it looks like the only way to do it is to buy a set rear sets. I am trying to keep the bike looks semi stock as well.

dallasb- I'll be getting rid of my factory rear signals in a few days if you're interested.

Just replace them with LED turn signals, would cost you less that $50, unless you get the good ones(mine were $80 per pair)

Yea but after you get the turn signals then you have to get the thing to slow down the flashing which is another 20 bucks. Which signals did you get jet?

Im not sure of the brand off the top of my head, there a UK based brand, ill think of it later and look for them on the net for you

I was looking to put turn signals in place of the stock mirrors on my firebolt because of the bar end mirrors

Are you saying use the flush mounts where the stock signals were or will they fit where the mirror were?

The stock signals use two holes for mounting. So do the R1 flushmounts. They fit perfectly, and don't require any fairing modification (at least on my Lightning).

An ep-36 relay costs about 12 bucks, so that makes the total package of signals for front/rear + relay about 75 dollars. Well worth it, in my opinion. But be aware that the flushmounts up front on a lightning, because of their mount angle, make for almost useless turn signals. I like them because they clean things up and are bright as f*ck from the side, but when it comes to a head-on view (especially with both HID lights on), you can barely see them.

Dallasb,

Just get tail lights and put them on the front if you are having that issue...I just did the relocation on my lightning and there is room...It is a tight fit though. Make sure you place the rubber flaps that are on the back of the headlight housing ABOVE the spacers that are now inside the frame. There is room, and the angle of the headlights is good.

what i did was cut the threaded part off of the mounting tube. there isnt a ton of thread to work with but if you lock tite it in the signal light body and use the lock washer on the inside of the fairing it works perfectly....plus you dont have those big spacers stuck inside the fairing. just be careful not to wreck thee threads while cutting.

Thnx I just got a set of rear signals in and installed them...I like the look so much better.

I see. I'm talking about doing this on a Firebolt and putting them where the mirrors were.

I tried my friend's mirror from an 07 Yamaha R6 (s edition) The bolts were spaced perfectly and his mirror went on my bike like it should.

This site has a good picture comparison of Yamaha mirror block offs

If you search ebay for "r1 mirror block off", you'll find some smoked led mirror block off signals that go where the mirrors are supposed to for $20 shipped. They are 5 sided and look like they should work fine.

I email the guy today. They mounted by double sided tape. They are supposed to fit the mirror location on 03-06 Yamaha r1's

I'm thinking about ordering them. I'd have to put a bolt through the missing holes so the fairing doesn't flop apart.

If I don't go that way, I've seen the chrome R1 mirror block offs are only $10 shipped. I could get those, fill in the R1 engraving, paint them black and get those flush mount mirrors from 58 cycle

I just cut the threads off one side of the tube.
Than bought some of the LEDs I can grab the link they where 10/pair another 20 fir the LED ep36

I did this the first night I brought it home, before seeing this.

I switched the metal threaded rods from front to rear, and put the front spacers inside/under the rear fender so you don't see them. Problem solved!

Front signals are shorter, rear are the same as before, no extra parts, no hacking up stock parts.

I also took out the amber lenses. It's legal to have white front turn signals in Oklahoma. The rear ones are supposed to be amber, red, or any shade in between though.
