wondering what brand of fuel people have been using with best results. haven't run through many tanks since I've picked up an xb12ss. first few from the nearby chevron and most recently filled at a shell. may be my imagination but it seemed the bike preferred the shell blend. anybody else with similar experiences between different fuel brands?

chevron and shell both receive alot of accolades on here from buellers but in all honesty i could never tell a diff between local shit-mart premium and name brand premium. even local joint that sells 87 octane ethanol free fuel works pretty well in my buells if weather below 70 degrees. it seems that general rule of thumb is run 91 octane or higher and buy your fuel from a station that has high sales volume which equates to fresher fuel in the tanks.

It's a con. There is no such thing as brand gasoline. It's a sweet deal the gas companies have to keep supply/demand under control. They quite happily exchange gas with each other and put their own name to it.

Go with the higher octane ratings, 91 or 94, doesn't matter who's selling it.

I prefer shell, and I've filled up at chevron as well. But there have been times I have had to go wherever. So like you said I think shell or chevron, and I believe the differences is the additives.

all gas and engine oils are the same and need to meet certain regulations.the difference starts when companys add their own Additives.no name brands meet federal regulations but most name brands exceed them.when you buy chevron fuel thats what your getting when you buy from an independent supplier you could be getting generic brands or you could be getting name brands.

Here in Vegas we have some Rebel stations that sell Rockett Brand 100 octane UNLEADED race gas at the pump. I'll run some of that stuff sometimes. Besides it smells good! I doubt there is a performance increase, but helps the engine run cooler.

Here in ETX, I don't think we'll stumble across anything higher than a 93 octane at the pump. I also believe its difficult to find fuel without 10% ethanol, though I haven't paid all that much attention, I'll keep mind for the bike if possible.

Good point with the "high volume" stations for newer fuel. There's a large exxon not too far off. maybe I'll give them a shot on the next tank.

Thanks for the input.
