I have an 05 XB12R and i have read a lot of people are having troubles with the fuel light staying on, well my fuel light does not come on. I was wondering if anybody else had that issue and if anyone had opinions of what it could be. I disconnected the fuel light and jumped the wire and the light will come on so it has to be either the fuel sending unit or i was wondering if the chaffed wires could cause the light to not come on any help would be appreciated. thanks[mad][mad]

Its possible it could be the sending unit in/on the fuel pump so... Next step would be to pull it and see whats up

Normally the chafed wire will turn the low fuel light on all the time. Unless the chafed wire was actually cut through then I wouldn't think the issue was chafing.

The sensor is actually plugged unto a single spade connector on the side of the fuel pump assembly so it is possible this is disconnected.

This photo was kicking around on Badweb - it shows the sensor and connector.

The sensor can be purchased separately and while it is a bit of a pain the fuel pump can be removed relatively easily as a DIY. There is another post here with reasonably detailed instructions.
