My fuel pump seems to be cutting out at random. Started up the bike after work tonight, it ticked over and then idled no problem for about 60 seconds then switched off. Started it back up again and got about a block before the bike cut out. Each time the fuel pump seems to be the first thing to stop (bike jerks and revs drop and fuel pump sound disappears, all at the same time). The it got worse and with ignition switch on the fuel pump would start and cut out repeatedly. Move the bike from side to side would cause the pump to come back on as would bouncing up and down on my seat which make me think it's a short on the wires connect the fuel pump.

It's too late at night to work on her now so i figured i'd post here and see if there were other ideas about what could be causing this or what i should look for in the morning.

Thanks
Lazy

Quick notes:

xb9r 2005, just under 9,000 miles new 3rd owner. I also discovered today that one of the spark plug boot cords was loose, fixed it bike ran well this afternoon then after work this evening fuel pump problem. She sat right in front of the window at the bar I work so i'm pretty sure no one ****** with her.

make sure the wires going to your fuel pump are all secure in the plug, they should not be able to pull out of the connector.

It took RedWhiteandBuell and I almost a year to find that problem on his connector.

You can search on here as well....the harness will sometime cause issues internally (at the pump). There is a little bracket or something of the like that has a sharp edge, and over time the harness rubs through.

So I discovered it was actually the wire connecting to the ignition switch that was loose and the rattle of revs were shorting the fuel pump. Easy fix tho.
