I've come to enjoy the lound priming of the fuel pump before engine start, lately however the pump sounds as if its struggling. The best way to describe the sound is that its softer than normal. I've alwasy been able to flip "engine on" switch an extra time and the pump roars again like it used to. Well today when I flipped the switch the pump came on very faintly, but it also sounded like there was sand passing throug the pump. I know there wasnt but thats how it sounded. Even while riding I can still hear this "grit" in the pump. I have an xb9sx with 4700 miles on it. Any help would be awesome. Thanks

None that i can tell while riding, although when the pump is quiter than usual it takes a bit longer to get started.

hook up the battery to a trickle charger when you park it overnight and see if it still happens

Trickle charged on the weekend, today the pump was louder than ever. Thanks for all the help guys.
So this "problem" then is due to the battery not being fully charged?

Hi there, i have an 05 xb9sx, i have noticed when i have a full fuel tank the fuel insulates the noise of the pump alot compared to half full and so on. cheers

Yea sometimes the fan on my bike will run for a while when I shut it down, this drains some of the battery and over time batteries will loose some juice. Sometimes it will even reset your trip meter :(
